Soft reset of top tier items: PoE is losing one of its key unique features!

To me PoE was always unique in that all the effort and time that I invested in the game was preserved. Instead of (soft) item/level resets as in all other games GGG provided ways of lateral character development. I do believe that this is great game desing. Everything I did, every item I found and every time I crafted something felt meaningful, since I knew it was an improvement that was here to stay. I did not mind grinding the hell out of the game because I knew, in the end, it would increase my overall "wealth" in the game.

With the announcement of new tier-1 affixes this has changed dramatically. Like in WoW, Diablo III and other games items - or rather their relative value - have now become ephemeral. It is no longer worth it to strive for perfection. After all, the next soft reset may be right around the corner.

Some might argue, that the old top-tier Items are still good. That is true. But their relative value has decreased dramatically with today's announcement. I would estimate that today I lost the equivalent of about 2k to 3k ex in item value. Of course this hurts a lot. However, that is not the main point. I have enought et/ex/mirrors to be fully equipped in the new tier-1 stuff within a week of PoE 2.0 going live.

What is much worse is that I feel that this will happen again. And again. And again. This is what drove me from WoW and all the other games. I want my time investment to be meaningful. I really, really don't like it when the results of several hundres, if not thousands, of hours of gameplay is simply taken away.

Some might argue: "But Faedris, did you not enjoy those hundreds of hours of playing PoE?" I sure did. However I did so, because I was "working" towards a permanent goal - a perfectly crafted item, for example. If you take the permanency of the (value of the) item awyay my fun is gone. Grinding for perfect itmes feels meaningless to me, if they are no longer perfect after the next patch.

I sure will enjoy PoE 2.0 anyway and continue to support it. However I do believe that this is a very, very bad design decision. If it is really *neccessary* to introduce new, higher tier affixes (I do not really see this), at least provide some form of trade in for the old 6*t1 items and mirrored 6*t1 items. It does not have to be 100% of the average crafting cost or a whole mirror but at least preserve some of our efforts.

Edit: Just a small note: I am totally OK with adding NEW affixes. It is just adding new tiers of old affixes that I really, really think of as a very bad design decision.

Yep... you're not alone with this. But then, nothing in this world is permanent. It does give those players who feel this way an easy excuse to quit though. That's really what developers need to avoid. The constantly rising bar isn't good for this kind of game.
Right now there is only a handful of items that are worth striving for on standard. A couple of legacies, a few mirrorworthy items and a pair of acuitys.

Thats not really lateral character development, thats as pigeonholed as it gets.
Wasn't it announced quite a while ago that they intended to add a new tier of mods with the release of 2.0?
I doubt the new tier 1's will be that much higher than the previous tier 1's. I'm guessing a 5-10% tops.

Games like warcraft or D3 had massive gear jumps almost immediately.

Sure your current items will lose value, but not as much as you're expecting. Wands scepters and staffs will get hit the hardest.

*I* think that all the items that I crafted are worth striving for. And so did those who mirrored them.

Corrupting Items, Master Crafting and Jewels are all examples for excellent lateral item development. Simply providing better tier-1 affixes is not. It is a cheap way to do a soft reset.

Yes that is true. However, only today it was announced that there would be new tiers for almost all desirable affixes. Before today's announcement I thought it would be new affixes alltogether (much like the new affixes from master crafting).

See, the value of top tier items is an interesting thing. 6*T1 (not weapons) were around 350 ex to 500 ex. I very much doubt that they will sell for more than 200ex as of today. Value changes kind of exponential when you get close to the optimum.

I shouldn't post in general but I do consider this a feedback thread so by all means I'll write what I stated earlier

Not really despite I have all the currency I could possibly want ( despite I don't play standard ) what's stopping them from making another tier AFTER the next batch? Sure it's stronger but continues to be a waste seeing how mirror worthy gear right now is overkill and will continue to be overkill beyond the measures.

There's much greater people then I am for sure such as Jake etc and such but even they will likely know ''what the fuck is the point of buying another'' It's basically buying a new version of a phone which many people do including my entire family and being even forced to to get one ''FAMILY STANDARDS!'' Anyway that's offtopic but you get the point.

Thank god I don't don't fully play standard anymore because I'd be really mad I don't blame the core people who play standard as the normal game to them; Sure I make fun of them all the time but if it's fun to you by all means continue to play it. It's basically GGG's way of ''NEW AGE'' for a little bit then well release another ^_^ completely nullifying their ''I'm done'' mode

I find it stupid personally but like I said I don't play standard but I do have some form of sympathy to the standard players ( Despite my name is Apathy )

In addition Chris...just basically just lied to us I mean he DID say they don't wanna de-value the items but obviously this WILL devalue it which I find insulting like if you're not going to do it don't fucking do it; Don't go oh... we're changing our mind but don't state it first.

Even if they didn't add a extra tier of mods they're still adding new base items. That alone nullified the value of a lot of your items.

There's always going to be change, accept it. When act 4 comes out find the new top tier bases, burn a couple thousand exalts, build the new top tier first, swim in the profits first.

1%ers are there for a reason. If you want to be one, learn to act like one.
