Basic SSF question

I don't play builds that need wacky colors on a weird 6L. That's the only reason you would need a gazillion chromes. It's nice to have enough. I stop picking up RGB links at about 500 chromes. I'll only pick them up if they're right there when I say "is there anything else I can pick up before I port?"

This was my very first time playing SSF.
I played on Xbox, using Enki's Arc Witch.

I made it to maps and clear t6 with no issues.
Only unique I am using is a Tabula.
I just hit level 88 and finally did my Uber Trail
(took damn long time to find that last trail for me)

Anyways. Things I learned in SSF

1) You can get to maps and finish the game with only 4 linked items.

2) Tabula is great farm for it.

3) Use the crafting bench to 4 socket and 4 link those items.
Going to save you a bunch of currency over the long run.

4) I picked up a good chunk of the chrome items I found for trade in.
(Again this was my first SSF)

5) Only use the chromes on items that have rolls you will use and keep for a while. (Basically, only do it once you are in Maps. Completing the Acts 1 - 10 you should not need to so much unless the item is GG unique that will carry you for a long time)

6) Again use the bench to chrome items, I just used chrome at least 1 red then switched to at least 1 blue or 1 green to get the colours I needed on my items, this only cost 4 chromes at a time. Yes, it is a little more to do it this way but I found it to be better than just spamming chromes on the item.

7) I did the Chaos recipe and Regal Recipe, I needed to craft daggers, Bone Helmets and Silk Fingerless gloves.

8) As Llyrain said, use Vorici in the Research section of Syndicate, you can get up to 3 white sockets on items, this will save you chromes.

It's now possible with Vorici in Laboratory - promote him as safehouse leader for 2 tries and level him to 3. So you have 2 tries with 1-3 white sockets.

Possible to do this while farming for Tabula in blood aquaeduct (ok, SSF people do such things).

No gazillion chromes needed, just color 3 sockets and white until it looks right.

Chromatic recipe - only during acts 1-10 of 1st character.
Chisel recipe - yes. It is very easy to maintain: just dedicate 1 stash tab for hammers, when it close to being filled up - blacksmith them all and sell with low-level maps. I don't feel like i'm doing a lot of extra job when i do chisel recipes this way.

I always grab items for the chrome recipe, even in T16 maps. At some point in your game, you may want to off-color something that requires over 100 chromes per roll. Since you can't buy the items you want in SSF, you have to find them or make them. Chromes make a difference.

The chisel recipe, on the other hand, hardly seems worth the effort.

I also recommend IDing and selling items constantly to build up a huge stash of alts. You may get tired of the process, but you'll be glad when you need 300 alts to roll some decent mods on a jewel.

Chromes all the way. Chisels from time to time.
