You said ninja looting is impossible to avoid, yet I gave you a system that stops it in it's tracks.

Only because it stops looting in its tracks. You physically deny everyone the right to things that drop that you don't want. That's worse a system than the current FFA loot scheme. It pretty much defeats the entire purpose of grouping up. It's the worst kind of system. It's not even a system, it's a blanket, absolute. It doesn't count.

Ninja looting is the "unfair distribution of loot" where specifically, somebody "steals" a drop, when you might not have gotten something you need yet, where the player takes the item and isn't willing to be fair and acknowledge that it should go to you.

It's a breakdown of communication and short-sighted behavior. The only thing that can curb it is social pressure. There is no computer solution that can be developed that isn't ridiculously obtrusive that stops ninja-looting. In the case of instanced loot, you stop ninja looting, but you completely and utterly prevent fair loot distribution, so it doesn't solve anything.

Seems to be a whole lot of pro ninja people in this thread. At least they are smart enough to throw a bunch of red herrings out though to keep the conversation interesting.

Ninja looting is not the only issue with FFA loot.

Non-FFA looting is not boring for all of us.

Systems which can and do prevent ninja'ing exist.

Trading can certainly be done in a non-FFA system.

1. Have all item drops visible to all players
2. Have the assigned name beside every drop, with no timer.
3. Left-click to pick it up, right-click to make it available to all.

And...we're done.
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

What do you think is the point of grouping up? I really don't see how you think that fighting over loot is the point of grouping up? oO
And by the way, the way you argue playing single-player has absolute no sense whatsoever?

And if you really think that social pressure is the solution in an online computer game on the freakin internet you must be new to the internet or think that PoE has only <50 players. ;)

Instance any loot that drops that would have a name on it. Free for all on the rest. The only time this could cause a slow down in the game is if the person decides they want to give it to somebody else. They would pick it up and drop it. You still get the rush of beating people to items but people will get the items that the game intended for them.
this game will never be big or go far as long as they have ffa. ive had talks at work and with other games on other forums and they all seem to agree, ffa is a bad bad idea. sure you pro ninja guys will argue but in the end only people who will get hurt is GGG. so let them destroy there game and give in to the ninja's

A) I still say that an indefinite timer solves the issues. You can see ALL of the loot but only YOU can pick it up. Solved

B) No matter how you feel about instanced loot it is an option and people do want it as an option. Ninja looting happens because the loot on the ground is meant for all of the players. In an instanced system it is divided evenly, so what you see on the ground is YOURS to do with what you want, and what your partner sees is HIS to do with what he wants. You have no need to see his loot because its HIS. That would be like if I was playing a single player game and you were mad that you couldn't come into my game to see what I was leaving on the ground.

But all of this is besides the point. If people want it as an option it doesn't affect you at all.

Instanced = boring and everyone has less odds of getting things they need. Since others have stated, you don't know what popped on the other persons screen.

If I'm looking for 2H swords for an alt, and you get one but don't want it, it get's left behind.

Your worried about your teammate leaving a good item on the ground that you need? Why don't you just do with what FFA'ers have been preaching from the start and if your worried about that then play with people who you know are cool if your so worried. Just doesn't make much sense to me. If its a nice player then he would offer such a sword to you if he doesn't need it, if its someone you don't know then why would you be worried about what he doesn't offer you? Wouldn't you be more concerned about him sniping your exalted that has your name on it? I would think that would be a bigger issue then some rare sword.

But again this is besides the point that you would never have to play it if it was an OPTION.
