Idea for the FFA loot system
Not reading everything here but one thing caught my eye - FFA loot system is promoting team work.
No it is not, not in the slightest. Teamwork just softens its hostility. This hostility is however something GGG intended to implement. You don't see people who are picking apples from the same tree to ninja each others apples. If they did that, their teamwork would be considered really poor and everything would take longer. However if they only take the apples that are near them, then they have it all done faster and can go sell all the apples sooner. You can see FFA system does nothing to teamwork. It would promote it if the people not working like a team were penalized for their behaviour. However they are not, they are rewarded for it - actually the rest of their team is penalized since they "steal" all the loot from them. ✠ ✠

Being able to fight, stay alive, and pick up loot simultaneously takes skill.
If you're not skillful enough to do these 3 things at the same time then you need more practice. All I hear is a bunch of lazy, self-entitled children complaining because "life's too hard, and everyone should cater to my needs, rather than me adapting to what's given to me" I absolutely LOVE the way the loot system is currently. The thrill of running into a giant pack of monsters to grab that GG item before the timer runs out and someone ninjas it while also dealing damage to monsters and trying to avoid dying is what it's all about! Stop trying to dumb the game down and make it easier. The way the loot system is setup makes looting in groups challenging, which makes it exciting and fun. TBH you're lucky you get that timer at all, we never had one in D2, and I preferred it that way. There was a certain satisfaction in being able to grab items faster than other people's pickits, nevermind the people themselves. ;P In D2 it took skill to be able to fight and loot simultaneously, if someone beat you to the loot then they outplayed you, move on and try again! Please remember, a lot of you came from D3. There's a reason you quit D3 and came here, because D3 is bad. Stop trying to make POE like D3. Let POE be what POE is going to be, don't fight it! in the end I guarantee you'll love it once you get used to it. If they were to change the loot system it would quickly bore many people including myself. Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it! Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience! "De plumber fixes de sync with de wrench." - Robert_Paulson Последняя редакция: GodlyMe#1920. Время: 25 окт. 2012 г., 01:16:05

Thought this was a good statement by a mod:

That's a "good" statement by a biased mod.
His complaint about long timers slowing down the game is valid, but guess what, when the mobs around a rare mob die and drop loot, a party usually has one person killing the rare and the others checking out the loot. That slows down the game, too. If you don't want the game to be slowed down, instance the loot (not what I want). " I would get no joy from doing this to others. I would feel like a asshole for doing such. You might find that more fun, I wouldn't. My opinion of the current loot system would be no different if I were able to snag 90% of the loot before anyone else. I do NOT want to PvP, and FFA is a form of that. I do not want my teammates fighting over loot while a battle still goes on. And I absolutely would not 'learn to enjoy it'. I will simply avoid public groups entirely. In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

" That sounds a lot like the people who aren't the least bit open minded to making everyone happy. Or we can just leave it the way that it is and enjoy the flurry of complaints for the next few years and the fact that there are hardly ever any public games running at all. Self Entitled? I definitely feel entitled to a non PVP way to play the game with other players. I definitely think that should be in the game. Your use of the word lazy shows that you haven't even tried to listen to the complaints of people who don't like FFA. Like myself for example. I can easily focus my full attention on the drops and play this little pvp game, however I don't find it to be fun at all. I enjoy fighting against the monsters and not against my teammates. " Good for you, So why can't there be another looting option for people who don't agree with you? " You want hard? Go play hardcore or cutthroat that's what they are there for. Your not mega hardcore just for competing over loot. What a silly idea. this controversy is not about making the game easier. The game itself can be as hard as the devs want to make it. I don't care in the least. " Exciting and fun for you. Speak for yourself not for everyone. " The timer does hardly anything to alleviate the issues people have with the system. Go ahead and remove it because it actually causes more issues than it solves. " This is simply a bad argument. D3 being a disappointing game does not mean that every system it used was bad. I would have loved an instanced loot system back in D1 or D2. " You should take your own advice. The devs haven't made a final decision yet. Love it once I get used to it? No, No, and no. I do not enjoy it and I never will. WE DON'T WANT IT CHANGED. WE WANT MORE OPTIONS TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. Standard Forever

Good statement in terms of describing why too long of timers can be a bad thing. I just didn't want to be selective about the quote

"I definitely agree with that. Would love to see the timers get just a bit longer, definitely not in the 30 second range, but it's annoying fighting distance and lag and clicking on an item only to have the game ignore you, clicking on it again, only having it ignore you again, and then having someone swipe it.
