OK so leveling is over lol

Here is some (mostly good) feedback for you. I just leveled up and started the maps and must say it's a great game. Graphics are good, the story was epic and gameplay is generally good. It seems well balanced too, at least for the mage character I'm playing. It's challenging, but I can get through if I keep trying even though there are some deaths.
Now that I've reached the maps though, the leveling is over. I do die a few times in those maps and it seems that whatever XP I gain is basically erased. If you guys keep that mechanic in place, I seriously doubt I'll keep playing the game. That's not really a complaint, just some truth. I don't mind dying but I don't want all progress towards more passive points to just stop. So, my advice: kill that mechanic. Last bumped9 нояб. 2025 г., 12:33:07

" That's the problem. Dying is supposed to be a punishment and not something that is expected to happen. The game is telling you to get better. |
|
" But you'll never get better than death in multiple lags, you won't get better than random oneshots, you won't get better than ground effects with broken damage without any protection. Just make the game normal first, and only then add your favourite -10%? |
|
" While at the same time being unjust, unbalanced, unoptimized. Should we call this poe-like. |

Bad design that tanks itself in its intent - literally encourages you to not care about dying after a point.
The problem is the flat 10% XP loss from level 70, as the levels increase. By the time youi're level is mid 90s, the number of maps you get set back by 10% of XP loss, for effort you've put in on previous playing days, is the most ridiculous punishment I've ever seen in a game. No other game I've played comes close. In mid 90s, even the amelioration orb of 3% doesn't cut it. Check out POE 2 Ninja for the top player levels in your class. Across the massive player base, people clearly just give up levelling after a while. The design stupidity is that the XP penalty is supposed to make you play better. The reality is that it eventually gets so hard, say level 95/96, that you accept you stop levelling and happily die continually, being held to your level start. For example, once I accept I'm stuck at the start of level 96, I'd be an idiot not to recklessly chase down rare monsters before the breach contracts. Dying stops meaning anything. Based on the design intent, it's ridiculous. Proceed carefully, trying to minimize any chance of death, and play becomes a lot slower and more boring. So many little things can go wrong that will set you back 25 million XP, that you learn to stop caring. This bad game design mechanic literally turns you into a fool if you try to keep levelling. This one is a real GGG head scratcher. Presumably they just like that few players make it to max level, and leave it at that. |

" Yep. That's the best thing about reaching level 100 on Path of Exile 1/2. It's not the extra passive points (which are nice). It's so you no longer have to stress dying so much and losing your experience. Последняя редакция: Berylstone#2209. Время: 7 нояб. 2025 г., 02:47:21

" Bad advice. The xp loss are ment as a Challenge and are here to stay, if you whant it ez and dont like a challenge this game is not for you. |
|
|
Wait until lvl 98. Its getting really fun then.
The XP bar is hardly moving and dying once will just erase the last several hours of gameplay. |
|
|
Have you tried not dying?
It's not that hard. |

Feels like every time this comes up it's people who've beaten the campaign for the first time using whichever Youtube meta-build had the coolest :O face in the thumbnail complaining about dying, one-shots, xp penalty, etc.
" It's possible to be unlucky and die, and I'm not saying I never die, but the amount of attention the xp penalty gets on this forum is so frequent it's basically a statistical certainty that the complaints are coming from players who juice content beyond their capability and are salty about being bad at the game, threatening to stop gracing us with their presence if we don't let them get their sweet sweet levels. To which I will say: Seeya next league, lol. Последняя редакция: karsey#2995. Время: 7 нояб. 2025 г., 15:18:46
