I didn't take many. In general, I don't believe in the practice of taking photos for one's own benefit (although if you're listing something on Craigslist I can dig it). Recently I heard of a study confirming my long-held suspicion: photo-takers have been proven to have worse actual memory of life events. I believe this is because they're living less in the moment, taking on the role of historian/recordkeeper when they should be taking on the role appropriate for the time. Don't have many photos of my kids, either; it's something me and Bacon used to quibble over. Thank you, Science, once again for sweet vindication.

You might ask "is homelessness really something you wish to remember?" Well, yes, it is. The better I remember it, the less likely I am to repeat it. This logic applies mostly to moments of desperation and critical choice — not so much to moments looking over a photo album. I care more about this effect on my future psychology than I care about this thread; I'd apologize to readers of this thread, but it would be insincere, so fuck it.

Science with ALL the data is good.

Studies in the past suggested for women to stop breastfeeding their new borns, and replace milk with the one you can buy. Later when they had MORE informations they discovered how bad is this "revolutionary" idea.

Funny how you interpreted that article which is a stub. I've read a more comphrehensive overview of that study which is not new by itself and the conclusion is simple - if you take milions of photos mindlessly as people do these days it does indeed impair your way of remembering things. But when you focus deeply on taking a single picture, composing the frame etc. by the fact of paying attention to more details your memory of said object is in fact better.

I only said I had "heard of" the study, not critically reviewed it. I actually didn't even read the CNN article until just before I linked it — I heard of it listening to the morning show of a local rock radio station.

I also think there's a world of difference between focusing on details of a static piece — such as those in a museum — and of a dynamic piece such as a person's behavior. Imagine the difference in experience between simply watching a movie, and trying to film a bootleg of the movie. That's the situation many photophiles routinely impose on themselves.

Well I used to do some semi professional photography in the past so maybe I got irked by soem statements. Let's not derail the thread any further, OP won't be happy.
