二刀流 "Nitōryū" Dual wield LL Ice Crash Shadow by wraithe_au

[WIP] Currently all theory atm. The main weapon is a place holder.

二刀流 "Nitōryū" means dual wield or two-sword style in Japanese.

This is a dual wielding low life build that utilises Ice Crash as the main attack and Flicker Strike as the secondary.

The build sets the character into a low life state using Shavronne's Wrappings which activates the low life function of Redbeak that gives a massive damage multiplier to attacks.

Ice Crash is a skill that uses only the main hand weapon so therefore the off hand Redbeak can be used as a purely utility item, much in the same way a quiver works for a bow, without the downside of the low dps of the weapon.

Important items:

Main Weapon + Redbeak

The main weapon should be a high physical damage weapon that has a high critical chance modifier. Rapiers are usually a good option fo their crit multi implicit, but the best is an Vaal Rapier, which in 2.0 has a 6.5% crit base.

The Redbeak is an interesting weapon that, although a common weapon that most people vendor, it has a special mod that is only usable in a low life state.

"100% increased damage when on low life"

A spectacularly powerful mod in the right circumstances. In this case, since ice crash only uses the main hand weapon, it serves to enhance damage without the drawback of of using its low dps.

Shavronne's Wrappings

The one unique synonymous with low life builds and the essential piece to this build. The gems used are to personal taste as Ice Crash can be scaled in different ways.

Abyssus / Rat's Nest

Its personal choice here.

Abyssus is a powerful helm for crit builds that adds immense critical damage. The downside the in the increased physical damage taken, which isn't as bad as it looks since the introduction of fortify.

Rat's Nest is a more defensive option with less dps but is still powerful.

I use Abyssus because i don't really care about survivability and i like big damage numbers.

Maligaro's / Acuity

Maligaro's are the best dps option here and should you aquire a legacy one, even better.

crit strikes / crit damage / pcoc / faster attacks / cold pen / life leech / etc.

A powerful attack that inflicts massive AoE damage in a tight circle around the character, the beauty is this skill is the fact you neither have to target to enemy, or even attack in the general direction. The 360 degree circle of damage is perfect to use with a flicker strike (see "Flicker Strike" below).

I like to concentrate on higher damage over attack radius, so i've connected Concentrate Effect to the attack. This retracts the AoE but increases damage.

Hypothermia is a powerful gem that offers 39% MORE damage against chilled opponents, against trash mobs this doesn't mean that much since we one-sht them anyway, but against enemies that require more than 1 strike is where this gem really shines, since that initial strike will most likely chill the target.

The sixth gem is total optional depending on personal taste, some dislike the slow speed of Ice Crash and would prefer faster attacks here, others concentrate on the cold portion of the damage and use cold pen. I personally prefer enhancing crit performance.

Flicker

fortify

I use flicker as a way to close in on a target, also as a way to inflict curses.

A quick 1-2 combo of flicker + Ice Crash sends me directly next the target so it inflicts the maximum crash damage. I usually aim the flicker into the middle of the pack to damage the most number of mobs.

The flicker also curses enemies with Assassin's Mark upon crits, The curse itself can be any number of options. Ele weakness can open mobs to enhanced ele damage or Frostbite for the freeze chance. I prefer AM for the power charges.

Fortify is is necessary for melee builds and this is the method of maintaining it constantly

Frenzy Charges

Blood Rage has been changed where the character suffers a physical degen of 4% life and 4% ES. Added together, this makes a build that has 6000 eHP suffer 480 damage/sec, which is untenable. This creates a massive hole in the generation of Frenzy charges.

Frenzy charges are required to not only run flicker strike, but the 4% MORE damage per charge is a massive boost and shouldn't be overlooked.

To fix this problem, Herald of Ice + Ice Bite is introduced into the build.

Ice Bite has a 59% chance to grant a frenzy charge upon killing a frozen target. The freeze chance in the build and the added chance to freeze on crit means the likely of shattering enemies is high and frenzy charges are generated quite quickly.

HoI quality offers 15% increased cold damage, which boosts Ice Crash as well.

So many strikes within one breath.
But only one strike needed, for certain death.

Uh, wow. I don't think I've ever, ever seen a build like this. Ever. To be honest, it seems really powerful.

A few things:

1.The best item base is vaal rapier with 6.5 crit base.

2.Skill tree: Witch seems best, because then you get like 4 extra points, allowing you to get aspect of the panther for some much needed attack speed as well as the extra frenzy charge in the ranger area.
Like this: click me

3. You might also want to get blast radius, Ice crash is insane with AoE.

All in all, it looks good. In fact, it looks bloody insane :P
For try, for see, and for know.

This is a buff
Yes, Vaal Rapier has its crit chance raised to 6.5% in 2.0, didn't notice that before.

This would mean that the absolute BiS is AXN's:

The new crit chance of this weapon becomes 8.9%

Witch start is better it seems, an incentive to create a witch build for me. Thanks for the input, as always, Ether.
