Heavy strike. I just did the experiment - bought q11 Heavy strike, Frenzy and Heavy strike and leveled them to lvl8. Linked with Faster attacks and added fire, results are as follows: Heavy strike: 1787 Frenzy: 1093 Double strike: 1610 I guess that if you want dps or stun, heavy strike is your friend, if you're looking for some life gain with life leech gem or life gain on hit, Double strike is the winner, and if you need charges and you're willing to sacrifice some dps, you go to Frenzy. So there you go. :) (FINISHED EDITING) So I quit some time ago due to unfortunate death in HC, and started playing it again. I was always a caster, so I decided to do something different this time around - melee build. I bought a crazy two handed mace, and decided to go perma stun, however, I'm still undecided on single target melee skill. Judging by numbers, Frenzy deals highest amount of damage, and gives best bonuses, however, from googling, I see that most people recommend DOuble strike and Heavy strike. But those skills have much lower amount of base damage they deal - what am I missing? Why isn't everyone and their dog using Frenzy as single target skill? Heavy Strike's Stuyn reduction is kind of a big deal. The knockback is a blessing and curse. If you can stunlock with Frenzy you will be a very happy man.
Melee Physical, Faster Attacks, Stun, Endurance Charge on Stun are your links. If you can stand Multistrike keeping you in place, replace faster attacks. |

Heavy Strike stun can have 93% reduced stun threshold with just Stun (20) + Endurance Charge on Stun (20)
Frenzy would only be 68% reduced with the two supports at level 20. You can gain 33% reduced stun threshold from the passive tree if you use a mace, you you can get over 100% with both Frenzy and Heavy Strike. So you'd be stunning when you deal 1.5% ? of a monsters HP in damage in a single hit. Frenzy has a mana cost of 12-15 while Heavy Strike has a mana cost of 6-9, that may be a turn off for some people. Heavy Strike deals a lot more damage per hit than Frenzy, even with max Frenzy Charges. Level 17 Frenzy is 10% increased damage per charge. Level 17 Heavy Strike is 80% damage always. So unless you can get 9(!) charges I'd pick Heavy strike For generating Frenzy Charges for added attack speed you can still use Blood Rage, you're melee so you can pick up a lot of HP% regen so the degen effect won't be much of a problem for you. Well if you don't go charges it'll end up being Heavy Strike.
But with crit and charges, Frenzy will and should win out all of the time. Daggers simply hit so often and so hard you'll end up stunning those that you don't kill. |

With RT, yes.
TBH, best melee skill is either Static Strike or Molten Strike, as they can effectively crit twice. They have the most maximum damage. Though, in your situation Heavy Strike may be best. Frenzy may scale better with a slower weapon though, because of diminishing returns. |

From a purely dps standpoint, Static Strike outdamages Heavy/Double Strike and Frenzy, no questions asked, and it has AoE built-in so you can use it for both single targets and mobs.
Molten Strike is a close second. Frenzy and all other single target skills are a distant third. |

Don't forget Dual Strike (dualwield only). It comes with a considerable 170% damage effectivness and the quality bonus is really good for crit builds (+80% critchance at q20) but i guess Static Strike wins in terms of maximum damage output.

generally speaking heavy strike is an inferior skill because of the knockback.
it means it can synergies with multistrike , which is technically one of the most important melee gems sine it does not dilute your physical damage into an element like added fire does. also because heavy strike is build around stun reduction, it does not mesh well with any gems or passives that increase attack speed. static strike i have found to be hit more miss. when it hits it is easily the best, when it misses oh god it misses spectacularly. i never liked molten strike on account you need stupid aps to make its spread consistent. but that is more of an early level quirk than an actual complaint.
