Chaos golem elementalist build, need some vital info on CG mechanics.

From the wiki, the chaos golem abilities are:

Pebble Pummel - Regular melee attack, 100% physical, supported by melee supports.
Tainted Fissure - AoE spell similar to Glacial Cascade, physical/chaos, does two hits most of the time, AoE radius increases range and width, supported with spell/AoE supports.
Impurity - Temporary DoT aura approximately 15 units in radius, 100% chaos, supported by spell/AoE supports but unaffected by spell damage.


My idea is to use elementalist for 4 x Chaos golems (alternatively, 3 CG and one Stone golem for the added 200 life per second regen and the taunt).

My curse setup will be heretic veil with Enfeeble, TC, punishment and vulnerability.

Since Chaos golems deal chaos and phys, the idea is to build around poison (which is why I use vuln/tc).

This is where I need help people :( I have no idea what skill gems to use for the last 2-3 gems. This is because the golem has 3 abilities. For example, if I use melee phys - it will only boost the melee attack. If I use conc effect, it would boost the degen aura and the fissure. What should I be using considering the playstyle I want? The wiki also states that the CG's 2nd skill is spell damage, so should I go controlled destruction maybe? Currently I think maybe rapid decay and Conc.?

Edit: One more question. Would going necromancer for the +100%+ minion damage be superior to elementalist maybe? I would lose 1 golem but he remaining golems will be stronger.

This is a really out of the box setup. Fortunately, the questionable gems here are all of the same colors with their alternatives.

I would go Golem - Minion Damage - Poison, of course, and then Inc AOE because it hits every ability and will boost clear speed, alongside Conc Effect for bosses (or all the time if it's that good) and maybe even minion speed. I would ignore Melee Phys because it only really would matter on the slam. Added Fire would be a good choice in place of minion speed because it would hit the auto attacks and the cascade. Void Manipulation and Controlled Destruction are probably poor choices. Spell Echo would be an interesting one, but probably bad. You should keep Minion Resist in mind for sure, because it's practically %less damage taken for them, and since they're your main damage source, that's a big deal.

Final note, I would only go with a Stone Golem if you have Zealot's Oath in any form or are going pure life and not hybrid, OR if you do end up needing the taunt. A stone golem - minion life - minion resist setup would lend your chaos golems a lot of tankiness while giving them that socket to not need a minion life or resist gem.

Even if it is expensive, try getting a empower gem. It massively improves all the stats of any summon.

Between necromancer and elementalist, necromancer is by far the best choice. Elementalist bonuses work on elemental golems, so your chaos golems won't get most of the perks.

Also, the +100% damage is for spectres, not minions. If you go for necromancer you would grab every node but the Soul Weaver line. You should also drop punishment (a horrible curse) for a purity aura, that would clear up the resistance problems from you and your golems.
You really want gems that boost their overall viability. Minion Speed is a good option that will boost their effectiveness considerably. Empower is also good, as someone already said.
Added Chaos Damage would be worth thinking about as well if you don't want void manipulation - it won't help the DoT aura, but will synergise with the poison on the other attacks much better than added fire would.

Vulnerability is a much better curse than punishment if you still want an offensive curse. I think with golems as your main damage dealers you'll need all the help you can get.

I've decided to go for necromancer instead. To clarify I meant 100% minion damage from the tree in total, not the spectre one.

How about using spectres too and use THIS spectre with increased AOE? http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Shaggy_Monstrosity.

The Shaggy monstrosities would also cause chaos damage in addition to my Chaos golems with their degen aura. Vuln/TC would buff their aoe degen too?

The only doubt regarding spectres is gem slots. With 2 x clayshapers I only have 4 links max on the rest of the gear. Can spectres still be good with only 4 link?

Also using the chaos damage buff totem with increased AOE and faster casting would be perfect for this build?

Wait wut. Are you sure your golems gain the effects of the other elementalist skills? How does that work exactly? I thought Ascendancy skills didnt work on minions. The reason is that for example the assassin toxic delivery or deadeye extra projectiles does not work on minions?

So why would golems gain the effects of the elementalist ascendancy nodes? Are golems treated differently than other minions?

Adser was referring to Liege of the Primordial. It gives +1 to max golems, and makes your elemental golems immune to elemental damage, plus some other bonuses.

If you're going into Necromancer I have a hint for you.Some time ago a crazy idea came to my mind - to kill stuff using Beacon of Corruption.How?By skill setup:
Spell Totem + Summon Skeletons + Faster Casting + Minion Life.
The totem does not stop to cast skeletons even if they are at max number,and the results is the oldest ones die to be replaced.And that releases caustic clouds from the beacon.

Thanks! If I go AB can I do both wither totem AND skele-suicide totem or will the "cant deal damage yourself" affect the minion caustic cloud on death?
This golem shares the fate of all attack/spell golems - it's very hard to support. Flame golem is by far the most popular one in offensive role because he uses only spells and two of them are projectile.

Your best chance with Chaos golem is the Fissure spell, it does pretty good damage and the coverage is decent with inc AoE gem. A good setup would likely be echo, minion damage, inc area, void manipulation and empower or added chaos.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
