The rat cage is not interacting with Eye of Innocence?

I just hit lv70 on my second character and proceeded to test my new build. The idea is to use blade vortex with combustion to ignite enemy, the ignite proc Eye of Innocence and Rat Cage convert the fire damage to physical damage. The physical damage should then proc Vaal Molten shield and explode everytime when my blade ignites. https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/The_Rat_Cage

But it is not working, the ignite from blades and even cremation do not cause my shield to explode.

Help please?

"Damage reflection: Vaal Molten Shell doesn't trigger on reflected damage." -wiki, source. Otherwise, VMS could Ignite, trigger itself, Ignite again, etc.

It used to work though. Sure, VMS couldn't trigger itself this way, but I once had a martyr of innocence cycloner that worked like this.
If he is indeed using eye of innocence and rat cage, then it SHOULD work.

it should work according to the wiki page on eye of innocence

Vaal Molten Shell: Combined with The Rat Cage, converting 10% of fire damage taken as physical, it will proc Vaal Molten Shell's effect when you ignite an enemy.
This cannot cause a chain reaction of explosions if Vaal Molten Shell has a 100% ignite chance. It will only proc when another skill ignites an enemy.

Click your profile name on the top left of the screen, click privacy settings on the right side of your screen under the portrait, uncheck "hide characters" and hit update. That should do the trick.

Uggh I’m leveling a version of this build right now. Gonna be pretty unhappy if it doesn’t work. That said I saw a video on reddit doing it the other day so it really should work...
Eye of Innocence is not reflected damage though. It is a very typical Hit by Fire Damage, which can trigger all sorts of Hit-related mechanics. VMS is special-cased such that it can't chain react like this; but if you ignite something by another skill, this should be possible.

One possible issue I can see (and that is why I asked to see the character) is that EoI hits you for 100 Fire damage. Assuming your standard 75% resistances, you take 25 of that. Out of that, Rat Cage makes you take 2 damage as Physical. This is a very low amount - and if you have anything else that would reduce this to zero before mitigation comes into play, you have never taken or mitigated any Physical damage at all. Thus VMS will not trigger. - I was wrong on this, see below.

well, "damage taken as" happens before the mitigation, so 10 phys damage would actually enter phys mitigation. and because all other damage taken modifiers happen after the mitigation, I cant see any way no phys damage being mitigated
