Flammability - "Chance to be Ignited by Fire Damage"?
I was playing around with some stuff in Path of Building, and I started to wonder how this modifier on the Flammability curse actually works.
I used a pure Lightning spell (Ball Lightning to be specific), and the Stormfire ring with "Your Lightning Damage can Ignite". It seems that PoB treats the Flammability modifier just as a "+x% chance to be Ignited" on the enemy, stacking additively with any other Chance to Ignite from my character, regardless of the damage type causing the Ignite. Is this correct in-game, even if the ignite is not caused by Fire damage? Or would the modifier be ignored if I am Igniting with non-Fire damage? Further, what if I deal damage of two types in one Hit; let's say Lightning and Fire? (Again, with Lightning Damage can Ignite.) Would it be possible for the Fire portion to ignite a cursed enemy, but the Lightning portion to not? Последняя редакция: Abdiel_Kavash#5296. " If you trust my fuzzy memory (sadly, a quick site:pathofexile.com mark_ggg Google search yielded nothing useful): Chance to Ignite is Chance to Ignite, so it will apply to your Lightning Damage (and Cold Damage where applicable, such as classic Hrimburn). The hit damage of all damage that passes the "Chance to Ignite" check is combined. Need game info? Check out the Wiki at: https://www.poewiki.net/

Yes, I am well aware of how Chance to Ignite works in general. I was wondering specifically about the "by Fire Damage" part, which as far as I can see is only present on the Flammability curse.
Does this phrasing have some specific mechanical meaning, or should I read it just as "Cursed enemies have +X% chance to be Ignited", period? |

the wording on flammability seems strict but it can be a relic of old times:) I would suspect here it works with any damage that has ignite capability. I suggest testing it in game

" Well crap, guess I can't trust my fuzzy memory, as I totally didn't realise that phrasing was there. I'd like to know as well, then. EDIT: boiz, let me know if you test. I plan on testing after I finish brunching and finish this Map, but I don't want to over-extra-re-duplicate your efforts if you're already on the job. Need game info? Tested by analogy on Standard using Hrimburn (Stormfire too expensive on Standard and I gave up after 1 trade attempt in Incursion. May try testing Stormfire specifically, later, if I can be arsed to find an actual seller.)
Test method: 1. Equip these gears: 2. Ensure I do not have any Chance to Ignite/Inflict Elemental Ailments on my character 3. Ensure I do not have any Fire Damage on my Attacks 3. Perform control test: Cyclone against non-cursed enemies to see if they ever Ignite 4. Perform variable test: Cyclone against Flammability-cursed enemies to see if they ever ignite: 5. Perform control test (other end): Gain a source of Chance to Ignite and Cyclone against non-cursed enemies to see if they ever Ignite ============================== Test results: Flammability's Added Chance to Ignite works on all damage types that are able to Ignite. Looks like the old wording is just a relic of before ailment-modifying mechanics came into play. youtube of performance of test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChC0zv0Imlw&feature=youtu.be ============================= analysis: One weakness of the test is verifying Step 3. I was able to remove all sources of fire damage that appear on the character screen, but it's possible I missed some source of added fire damage that does not appear on the character screen. For reference, the character I used for testing was Zweihandghar and the boots I used for the second control test were: Need game info?
