SSD
When people install a SSD to their computer, is it usually a replacement of the traditional hard drive, or an added drive that they only use for programs that take a while to load? Like PoE.
In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

Usually is to install the OS so it boots faster, but other programs can also be installed in it.
Or if you are rich, just use SSDs. I'm in an abusive relationship with life. It keeps beating the hell out of me and I'm too cowardly to leave it.

" They aren't that expensive, just doesn't have as much space as a regular drive. For a 150gb SSD you can get a 2t normal HD. I have two SSDs running in raid. Holy shit they fucking run awesome. Takes 10 secs from turning on my computer to loading the desktop. Poe takes nothing to load. And Photoshop cs6 takes 5 seconds. Best money I spent ever. I usually keep games and programs on my SSD's like Path of Exile, League of Legends, photoshop and movie editors.
Then I use my main hard disk for things like music, videos/films and microsoft office and all the stuff that uses. This way I can open slower programs faster while still having the space for anything large I wish to keep. Harvest crafting thread: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2902994

Just built a new rig with an SSD. My old rig had a Seagate Black HDD that ran at 7200rpm, but on an LGA775 platform. PoE took a minute to load. Load times between instances were roughly 20-30 seconds.
Now, on a LGA1155 with a Samsung Pro 840 SSD, PoE loads in 10 seconds and instances in 2. Yeah it's worth it. I wonder if a RAMDisk would be faster. Doesn't matter, I'll take 2 seconds anyday. BLAMT!

As others have stated, the first step into SSD is used mostly for OS operations - booting faster is one of these advantages - quick indexing is another.
About 6 months ago I bought my first SSD, an Intel Cherryville, for my OS - replacing my old Raptor 10k RPM HDD. I couldn't be happier, currently I have about 1TB of Intel Cherryville's sitting in the PC now and I'm not sure I could ever go back to using an HDD. |

First was for OS, then I realised I could fit Skyrim and PoE on it.
Then PoE started patching. Big time. So I got a second one that I devote purely to PoE, Gw2 and my steam downloads. And they're not that expensive. And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

It's really hard to screw up. There's some screws, and two cables (one for power, one for data).
installation
![]() Then it should just show up as a new drive on your computer. If not, you may have to format it. |

Mounting the SSD to a 3.5" cage was harder (due to the tiny screws & by big ham-fisted fingers) that hooking up the power & SATA cable.
Make sure you plug that brandy-new SSD into a 6GB SATA port. Mobo manual will tell you the difference between 3s & 6s. Typically they are color coded. BLAMT!
