LMP/GMP - How do they work?

Hello everyone, this is a topic which I have been having a very hard time finding information about and how exactly the "extra" projectiles of LMP and GMP work.

On one side of debate people seem to think that your tooltip dps of w/e attack you use is "PER" projectile you shoot. So in essence, if you use LMP/GMP your tooltip damage is 3x and 5x respectively what it is showing.

EXAMPLE - tooltip dps on a attack with 1 projectile = 1000 dps, if you add LMP/GMP, your attack is now 3000 LMP or 5000 GMP dps "PER" projectile.

The other side of the debate is that your tooltip damage is divided between all 3/5 projectiles. So in essence, if you use LMP/GMP, each projectile is doing 1/3, 1/5 of your tooltip damage.

EXAMPLE
- tooltip dps on a attack with 1 projectile = 1000 dps, if you add LMP/GMP, your attack is now 333.333 LMP or 200 GMP dps "PER" projectile.

Then there is the third side of the debate where people are stating that "ONLY" spells have the ability to hit a "SINGLE" target with all 3/5 projectiles from LMP/GMP at the same time. Where as bow, or attack projectiles can only hit a "SINGLE" target with 1 of the 3/5 projectiles from LMP/GMP.

EXAMPLE
- tooltip dps on a attack with 1 projectile = 1000 dps, if you hit "1" mob, you do 1000 dps, if you add LMP/GMP, you hit that "1" mob for 3000 LMP or 5000 GMP damage, "ONLY" with spells, with any other projectile attack, you still only hit that "1" mob for 1000 dps, even if "ALL" 3 or 5 projectiles hit.

So if anyone, preferably a developer, could clarify this debate for me on how exactly the additional projectiles are calculated when it comes to tooltip dps, and which types of attacks actually benefit from them, and in what manner, that would be fantastic.

Hm common sense.

if your tooltipp with lmp shows 3000,

you deal 3000 damage average if you hit 3 targets.

if theres is only one target you deal 1000 damage because 2 projectiles miss.
that's how i undertand the tooltip.
Tooltip dps is per projectile, yes.

That being said, your math for using GMP or LMP with a 1000 DPS attack is wrong. GMP and LMP lower the damage you do by 50% and 30% respectively. If you use LMP with a 1000 DPS attack, there will be 3 projectiles per attack, each doing 700 DPS. With GMP it would be 5 projectiles doing 500 DPS each.

In short:

LMP: 70% of normal DPS, 2 additional projectiles
GMP: 50% of normal DPS, 4 additional projectiles.

Does that clear things up?

Tooltip DPS does not assume that every projectile hits an enemy.

Well obviously they do with the less and increased damage factored in, I know they are off by a bit, bu that wasn't the question BRavich.

The question is, does the tooltip dps on skills multiply by each projectile or divide by it. And which skills does that actually work for in regard to being able to hit a target all at the same time with each projectile, ASSUMING, all projectiles could actually hit the same target at the same time.

Hmmmmmm.

Example:

Tooltipp 5k Damage (Attackskill, LMP, Chain)

so the real damage for one shot would be (assuming every projektile hits)

5000 x 3(LMP) x 2 (CHAIN) = 30k Damage?
Well I wasn't talking about chain as well, but it would actually be like this, ASSUMING that each projectile is "X" the tooltip.

5000 x 3(LMP) = 5000 x9 (Chain - chain goes 2 times) = 45000 damage.

5000 x 3, 5000 x 3, 5000 x 3 = 45000 damage

uh yeah my bad. but is this how it works?

look at my ae skill (power siphon, crit, crit multi, lmp, chain)
What is my real dps now? 40,9k?

chain hits 3 times total, but otherwise yes.
