Close and try again. If it still doesn't work try patching while connected to a VPN.

so, I connected via vpn but a similar error occurred:

Sounds like you might be having some internet connectivity issues then. Try disconnecting from the VPN, then run a winMTR trace to patchcdn.pathofexile.com and attempt to patch again. Once you get the timeout error again, post the results of the WinMTR here so we can take a look.
Instructions for WinMTR can be found linked in the Consolidated Technical sticky post at the top of the page. Just make sure you use patchcdn.pathofexile.com for the host. |

Your PackCheck.exe is in the same folder as the pathofexile.exe if you need that in the future.
It seems like your connection through your ISP is a bad. I would call the ISP to try and fix this problem. It might be on their end, or it might be the wiring from your modem to them, they would be able to find out. The symptoms are that you have consistent packet loss and high pings starting at hop 3. Just keep trying to update, the errors happen when the connection times out completely, but eventually the game will be fully updated. The problem will be playing it on that same bad connection. |
