please GGG, for the love of god, fix Strongboxes

Play on American Gateway.
Say goodbye to freezes on strongboxes or lag near shrines etc...
Faster loading times, less lag, less freezes, less desinc.

I am playing from Europe and even if i have a higher latency on American Gateway, everything is better then Europe Gateway.

Try for yourself.

This is just wrong.
Every player/character/build needing a single gem in order to open a box is wrong. When there are 3 other movement skills that should be reliable.

Why would anybody want to stand in the way of johKeys' suggestion to fix boxes, why, just fucking why?

1) What if i tell you that not every character needs movement skill when open boxes.

2) Show us, please, where in the quoted post is the "i'm against johnkey's sugestion to nerf the boxes"?
There is a plea to stop with those countless "I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO PLAY, NERF X!!!" threads. Which is reasonable, because such threads in their current execution are (let's call it in civilized way) bad

3) Anuhart, you've already "left" game couple of times. Why are you still here, spilling the frustration all over the forums?
If something makes you so much frustrated\nervous\disappointed\etc - why don't you just leave (doing) it?
Simple advice. Move on. Like a grown up man. Save your nerve cells (and ours also)

Strong boxes are this great idea with an awful implementation. Just spamming us with mobs that get a free hit before we can even see them is awful design.

The workarounds shouldn't HAVE to exist.

You can use Smoke mine, you can light warp and open, open and whirling blade, open and quicksilver/quartz...dieing to strongbox is silly.

I just dont beleive you, because that is bullshit unless you have NASA specs PC

And even if you had that pc, most of people dont so its a design problem

How is it a design problem, there's almost no chance to die to stongbox while using smoke mine for example. I would be willing to bet on it.

And yes, I've died once to strongbox. Specs are nothing special, i5-2500k oc, gtx 660. Maybe I'm just lucky, don't know. I just don't see them as issue tbh.

That's not true, at all.

The spawning monsters can and do cause freezes which prevents even smoke mine.
Even if smoke mine was 100% proof, don't you think that, in itself, is bad design? That every player is required to use smoke mine? I recall Phase Run being removed from the game, and it wasn't even mandatory, it was just almost universally desired.

A small delay on spawning (really small) would allow the use of any of the movement skills, if there was a game freeze on spawn, your character has already moved. Everything would be the same in that you need to click and GTFO, but you would be able to use any of the movement skills without stun desyncing, collision desyncing or game freezing while still at the box.

There really is no reason for the boxes to be as they are now rather than as I described, other than plain bad design with sync and optimisation being as they are in PoE.

I assume initially a Strongbox simply holds a client-side string "box properties" descriptor.
this explains the fact re-rolling a box with orbs is pretty much instant. players are simply re-generating a string with some localized RNG on the client side.

when a box is opened, the descriptor is sent to the server - which generates the actual contents, then simultaneously communicates the result back to the client for loading, and runs the simulation.

if this is true, it means that in many (most?) cases whatever is in that box will get a few "free hits" on the players before those have a chance to respond.
regardless of player hardware quality and connection quality (unless both are absolutely perfect).
hits that can be fatal.

if I am correct, can this be changed, as a concept?


I know about this issue as even i get it on my two super fast pcs. I don't think it's a graphical problem. From what i have seen this happens when the box spawns an exile. You may wanna avoid that mod until a fix is deployed.

This thread should be in bug reports even though it's also feedback imo.

I agree with the thread creator this should be a top priority on the bug squashing list. It's a deadly trap for hc players (even though i don't play hc i can symphathize)
