When should you use Orbs of Alchemy?

Depends on how you play... I play solo/self-found/HC. I almost always alch up a set of gear in the lower 50s to get by Dominus in Cruel.

I use all orbs from beginning to the end!

However, In late game trading you wont be trading with alchemy orbs anyway so you better use them. A neat trick is to use them on jewelry (rings, amulets and belts) above item level 60 as these are the most uncommon rares you'll find. What was the topic again? Oh, right... no, don't use them on low levels unless you play self-found or are lucky enough to find a 5L/6L you want to use. Other than that, safe them - they're good for trading and frequently used in farming maps.

I tend to use them on white 40 life belts I find along the way of leveling up.
Also on 24% rustic sashes, if the result sucks absolutely I can always just use it for increased damage mod recipe.
Other than that, late game mapping is a good idea.
Blues are pretty good for leveling up until you get a better yellow, especially those that you can craft something special for it.

Pic related, its a white I got from vendor just as I reached act 1 town cruel. did the sash recipe and it works wonders for its level. (augmented it cause why not)

I also like to sometimes spend alchs on boxes when in maps. And ofc cant forget alchs are also used for master crafting and more importantly when starting a new league, to buy gems from masters (especially those popular and high quality gems)

To be honest I use them while leveling first couple characters on a fresh league from about level 15 onwards(about every 10 levels or so), while I may struggle for a while and have to farm a few extra levels of docks for drops it all works out and the leveling experience is much easier.
