Tornado Shot secondary form and Infractem: Arrow or Projectile?

Based on the skill gem description: "Fire a piercing shot that travels until it reaches the targeted location. It will then fire projectiles out in all directions from that point." Some people on both the official forums as well as reddit have also mentioned that Infractem's "Arrows always Pierce" mod won't work with the secondary projectiles, as they do not count as arrows. However...

There's just arrows - one primary arrow which always pierces, and then three other arrows without that piercing property that fire from where the first arrow hits.

Does this imply that they are indeed arrows and thus work with Infractem's mod? I've tried testing it in dense packs but the randomly aligned spreads made it difficult for me to get a definite answer.

Anyone has concrete info (GGG, hopefully?) or some better way to find out?

They should all get 100% pierce with Infractem.

That was my intuition as well, until a couple of redditors mentioned that Drillneck's implicit arrow pierce chance did not apply to the secondary TS projectiles, although the passives and Pierce support gem work with them since they explicitly apply to projectiles.

You're saying that the projectiles coming from the "explosion" aren't arrows? The quote you have from Mark says they're arrows though. Take off all supports and try with just plain Tornado Shot and Infractem and see if you can get them to pierce, should be way easier to see.

They're arrows. Infractem applies. So does Drillneck.

Thanks for dropping in, Mark, as well as the clear and explicit answer. Thank you!

Can you explain this?? Still not get it.

If you got 30% elemental damage bonus and 20% fire damage bonus, that means you got 50% total increased fire damage. This is the same, arrow pierce chance is a subset of projectile pierce chance, which means you got 112% arrow pierce chance in total (actually 100%, that's the cap).
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

In tornado shot, arrows are the first ones before explosion. Projectiles are the ones created after the explosion.

%112 is impossible. I only got one pierce gem connected to tornado shot (gives %56 pierce chance only to projectiles) and drillneck gives %10 (for arrows).

How did you get %112? Thats absurd. You multiplied 56 with 2, but i dont understand why you did that.

Its very clear in the image, projectiles got 56% (only pierce gem) and my arrows got %66 (pierce gem + quiver) This proves you are wrong. Projectiles are the subset of the arrows, not the otherwise.

That's a bug I wasn't aware of - only one of those should be showing. The immediate cause is that it's showing both a "number of projectiles for fire" and "number of arrows to fire" - those stats are the ones that other arrow/generic-projectile stats use to know if they're needed, and should never both be shown for one skill (at least, we don't have any skills so far which fire both arrows and non-arrow projectiles. Such a skill isn't theoretically impossible). I'll investigate.
