Assuming some things here, but most likely you will find your path of exile folder in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common The dsound.dll should be located in the path of exile folder. I'm kinda going from memory here, as I'm at work right now. I think that's where the file you are looking for is located. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion

My alienware (AW13R3) also gets no sound. This seems like a very strange driver-related problem.
Game is installed with the standalone client, and no 'dsound.dll' in the game folder (the version used by the process is in \windows\system32) With only the speakers I get no sound, only "No sound driver detected" in red. The --softwareaudio switch does not change anything. If I plug an HDMI device in, it will have sound and work ok when selected. However when I try to select the "Speakers / headphones (Realtek audio)" device I get a red "Failed to initialise sound driver message" and no more sound. After some digging it turns out that I have "Disable all sound effects" checked in the "Enhancements" tab of my sound output device settings in windows. If I uncheck that, the error message in Path of Exile goes away, but I don't get sound from any application (including the game.) This is all with the latest official drivers. So long story short: the drivers suck, but only poe refuses to work with them. |
