Molten Strike projectile question

beside the 10% more fire damage from Xoph (10% fire pen), I can hardly believe it worth the 4ex ish price on the poe trade.

My 6 links cyclone has a better dps tooltip with life leech 20/20 and blood magic so losing all physical dmg is not worth for me.

Unless I misunderstood the mechanic of Avatar of Fire which I believe void any non fire dmg.
I'm am using a 6-link Cyclone setup as well (Melee Phys, WED, Fortify, Faster Attacks, Elemental Focus) and my tooltip DPS stands at 147.4k (in HO buffed with flasks, HoA, Lightning Golem, Ancestral Protector... a lot more "in action" with all Berserker buffs). Now, when I remove Xoph's Blood it's only 104.7k... whether that massive increase is worth 4ex is for you to decide, but Xoph's Blood is the best-in-slot amulet for pretty much any build based on Ngamahu's Flame, by a country mile. ;)

On top of that, all my Cyclone damage penetrates 58% Fire Resistance, 95% Fire Penetration with Molten Burst (with The Wise Oak)... not to mention the "Ash" debuff which causes the affected target to have increased fire damage taken and less movement speed.

Btw, the Life Leech gem works perfectly fine with any type of damage, physical or elemental, it doesn't matter (except Damage over Time).

Okay so x% fire pen tends to be higher than x% more fire damage for hits against "the enemies that matter" aka enemies with 1% or more fire resistance. For example with no other stats in play, against 75% fire resistance enemy, 10% fire penetration is literally equally as strong as 40% more fire hit damage.

Second, Xoph's Blood also has Cover Enemies in Ash when they Hit you, which causes them to take 20% increased fire damage. Since this is a damage taken (receiver-side) modifier, it ends up being 13% to 20% more damage depending on what other damage taken modifiers you have inflicted on the enemy (Shock, Intimidate), generally being 20% more damage.

So the base case against an enemy with 0% resists and no other weird effects is 1.1 * 1.2 or 1.32 or 32% more damage, which is pretty massive.

On top of that, there's the 50% Phys to Fire Conversion from Avatar of Fire, which causes the orbs to scale with all of your Weapon Elemental Damage at full force (after all, Axe + AoF = 100% Phys to Fire conversion!). That's pretty nice.

Huh. I've never used Ngamahu's Flame before, so I'd assumed Molten Burst would have come with native 50% phys-> conversion as a skill (so, dealing physical damage with Molten Burst would have been impossible).

Yeah, if the balls only get 50% phys->fire from just equipping the axe, finishing out the rest of the conversion with Xoph's Blood would be pretty strong.

When you open your character sheet for Molten Burst (without Xoph's Blood) it clearly shows physical damage:
