VP was never the problem

" I do actually agree with that, but maintain that vaal pact contributed to the issue more than it helped, because it made the non-oneshots matter even less. Too fast recovery is sadly a staple of RPGs from MMOs with a healer in the party to turn based games with stockpilable full restore potions. I don't want all deaths to be because of a botched .1 second dodge, but a bad entire fight where every hit taken mattered. With streaming being so important for this game, hardcore deaths being the highlights of a stream and logout (not even talking about macros as if the entire fight mattered, even manual logout would be too fast) existing, oneshots will continue existing too. Sadly so. Vaal pact nerf should be a step in the right direction though, as it allows for a lot more time between two-shot mechanics in GGGs design-space, at the very least. Solution is quite easy. If they nerf VP I don't spend any more dollar in this game. What they want they will have it.

Tbh, VP has needed to go for a looooong time now.
If you played a VP char once, you just couldnt go back, it was way too strong. As someone said, (old) VP created the illusion of build diversity, and was THE biggest offender to any balance changes that GGG could do. It simply needed to go before they could adress the issues of spike dmg in the game. Does this mean we will get a league or two that smacks you hard in the face if you facetank everything without a real tanky build (with multiple layers of defence), yes, probably. But it will also open the way further down the line (when balancing catches up) to REAL build diversity, not just go VP or go home. So stop with the "Im not gonna play anymore because ggg killed my insert VP build here". Sure you can stop playing anytime you want, but shouting out in a tantrum like a child that lost his mothers teat is just unsightly. (We all know most of you will be back again anyways, hell, most of you wont even quit, lol) Best balance change done in a looooong time imo, is it perfect, never is, but its a really good start! Whatever ggg decides to do, i hope they dont buckle under the "but im entitled to invulnerability, sobsob" threads and revert to the old one. See you in the next leagues! |

@egalisator
Exactly my point, i want my deaths to be the result of my bad play style and being out of position, right now a frog jumps you and he rolls a crit in a extra damage map and you see the death screen, how is that a FUNgame design , 99% of all deaths are from bullshit mechanics . The new scorpion fight looks damn great , so many stuffs to dodge and fights tak3 a while , dont mind that as it has cool mechanics . If i will die from 2-3 hita because i was out of position i can deal with that , but if that scorpion will 1 shot me how the game knows if i was out of position or simply because i had a lagg spike and server took my old xharacter position, as it happens often for me due to not so stable conection. This is an online game , if they still keep the mentality of insta logout when tuning end game mobs damage then they should consider lag spikes too. I have 783 builds in my poe.planner
I played 3 of those in the last 2 years Please more 1 shot mechanics so i reduce it to 1 . Thank you. |

And of course those bosses that can't oneshot anymore because you outleveled and outgeared them, promptly require no gameplay at all anymore because you can facetank them and they die in a few seconds. No healthy middle ground with this design approach.

Can we just appreciate for a moment the irony of a guy saying "All my builds were centered around abusing this one single mechanic, but with that gone, where is the build diversity?"
This is why I'm glad ACTUAL game designers are in charge of balance and not people like you. It doesn't take MUCH of a brain to see that One-shots being common were BECAUSE of VP existing, not the other way around. Yes, one-shots will always exist. But without VP they will be reserved for select boss fights(unless your build is straight up garbage), and you won't have to worry about the random crit frog or whatever BS you're talking about. So, I guess by defending VP, you're in favor of every frog potentially one-shotting you? Because that is LITERALLY the argument you're making. They can't fix this problem without fixing VP first, or it would go back to trivializing everything like what happened when VP first came out. Fun fact: before VP existed, this problem you're referring to didn't exist. And the game ran like that for years. Odd that VP would be introduced to solve a problem that DIDN'T EXIST as you're alleging...that seems fairly unlikely. |

" You must be new to poe , all that you said has no logic , i never stated VP was good , its not good even now , designing a game around leech its bad as you just go full hp nodes as your only defense. And if u dont understand from the new bs shaped items we will again get power creep ,and no monster damage balance. This game is slowly becoming more and more of a glass cannon design , kill before you get killed. The defense mechanics armour , evasion,dodge , block , spell block become more useless with every patch. To bring back more build into meta they should cut monster damage by 5 times and cut player damage by 100 times , maybe then meta will change. I have 783 builds in my poe.planner

Man, for being a mature, adult version of an ARPG, there sure seems to be a lot of babies playing.

" Those complains are legit though... if you can only create viable builds with VP. |
