Cast when damage taken required levels?

Ok. So I'm gonna use the following link:

Cast When Damage Taken - Phase Run - Molten Shell

Wiki read for CWDT:

Maximum level of supported skills: Cast when Damage Taken cannot support skills with a higher player level requirement than that of Cast when Damage Taken itself. Note that this restriction only applies to active skills; any level of other support gems may be used.

If I'm reading this right. If my molten shell is level 16(which was my original plan) does CWDT need to be level 16? If so, if molten shell is 16 and CWDT is 10, will it cast molten shell level 10 or ignore it completely.
Any info would be most appreciated. This mechanic is proving to be most tedious.

it is indeed pretty tedious if you want to min/max it. hopefully you already know the trick to right-click the "+" button next to a gem when it's ready to level up, to hide it and prevent yourself from accidentally leveling it

When it says Level Requirement it really means Level Requirement. Molten Shell level 16 requires a Character Level of 58 to use. This means your CWDT must be rated to trigger gems that require level 58 or higher. The lowest level CWDT that fits this criteria is CWDT Level 11, which states "This Gem can only Support Skill Gems requiring Level 58 or lower"

tl;dr you want CWDT 11 and Molten Shell 16

ignore completely. the CWDT gem ignores the Molten Shell so you will not get any CWDT triggers. however you are still allowed to cast Molten Shell actively as if the CWDT gem did not exist, if you so wished.

Oh so in wiki item requirement level is referring to gem level requirement. So since phase run level 13 requires level 58, I would run level 11 CWDT, 16 molten shell and 13 phase run. Correct?

Also, when these proc. Does it cost me mana for the usage of proc'd gem.
