Possible solution for lagging/crashing in new content

TL:DR at bottom of post

Hi All,

Long post incoming, but please read-

Long time lurker here, first time poster - I created an account specifically for this post because i shared the same frustration as many of you

My history with this game - been playing 4 seasons and haven't ever experienced the lag/crashing that I did now with the new content and encounters with Syndicate. Breach opened? Crash. Syndicate hideout? Crash. Too many mobs on the screen? Crash. I have been following the many upon many threads here about consistent crashing (making the lockup sound and failing back to xbox home screen ) and was about fed up with this league.

Ive done IT systems admin/Network Admin for 12 years and came to a solid conclusion at least for me anyway

This season, I did the standard molten strike jugg that many others are playing which seems to be a common build here on the threads, but experienced the same exact problems everyone else had. Level 88 and was unable to progress wasting hours on end losing exp, hurling controllers across the room. Any time a large pack of mobs would flood the screen, immediate crash. Mineral pools with a syndicate battle? forget about it. Anything with high mob density and animations? My console had an aneurysm

I took a full day off of work today to put in some testing/analysis of my own- This is my go to game and sacrifices had to be made. Its supposed to be my destresser, not my re-stresser

Specs: Im playing on an Original first gen Xbox one (not X ) with a hard line Ethernet to my ISP gateway on a 500/500 mbps fiber connection and game installed on external SSD through USB3. Prior to this,i had tried every fix under the book that Jeff had recommended- uninstalling, formatting my SSD, port forwarding, etc. Nothing corrected it.

To rule out all possibilities, I segregated my Xbox from my home network with its own public IP address, and DMZ'd the Xbox's local IP to make it totally uninhibited from any other traffic. Popped my laptop on that network and ran a wireshark monitor on the Xbox's IP for about 2 hours and played the game as normal - as expected, crash after crash BUT absolutely no network drop or packet loss to the server on the monitor. The connection to the servers stayed solid until the game crashed and was reloaded. 99.98% sure its not a network issue, but im human and have been wrong before.

Started thinking- the only time the game crashes is under heavy load when bursts of mobs appeared or heavy display visuals: I figured my system couldn't handle the graphics burst and was overloading the card.My Current gem setup: molten strike -Multistrike- elem. damage- faster attacks- ancestral call. Also using Grelwoods/Beltimber for added proj. and 1+ Helm enchant so my screen was constant chaos. For Giggles, I swapped out ancestral call for Melee damage on full life, which seemed to help substantially on the screen/resolution drop lag - but still had the occasional crash when the screen populated quickly and heavily - especially the syndicate green stuff animation, and multiple projectiles from breach mobs. the Black/Hollow elder mobs were another big game crasher for me. However, it became more tolerable - i just had to quickly move out of the center of the massive mobs and the game went back to normal resolution.

While testing, Found another thread that someone said disable any MTXs, that seemed to help a bit for them- I removed my delve league helm MTX and wings and continued to play for another 4+ hours. The combination of removing MTX's and swapping out ancestral call for Melee damage in my MS setup COMPLETELY ELIMATED my crashing. Not one single crash since - In the time of playing, i have downed all guardians, down my first white elder( nothing special i know, but mile marker for me ), and been able to breach/ abyss cracks without issue. Guarded, i dont sit in the middle of the chaos and face tank everything because my system does still get a performance hit and starts to lag, So i relocate positions as needed when i notice the resolution drop. Even got my first exalt drop out of it :), Bonus: clear speed wasn't affected, and my new setup melts bosses faster

I think that between the MTX's and sudden screen flooding, there are bugs/performance issues that need to be addressed by GGG because the consoles dont have as powerful as a video card as a PC does - but this here has been my fix and i haven't had once single issue since making the above changes. NOTE: i only have one console to test from, cant say this is a for sure fix or fix for other builds, i can only speculate- but lets see if any other MS Juggs can do the same and see how the game runs and spread the word.

Please forgive any spelling/typo errors - its 1:55AM my time and I had tapped the bottle out of frustration.

Best of luck, exiles!

TL:DR- Disable all MTX graphics/cosmetics and swap out gems that flood the screen with animation in large packs. Corrected my crashing issue for me

Hi bro!
Ty for sharing your test. Oke lets do this:
Playing now templar totem build 9mil.
I have unequipped my mtx only Gloves And helm (have only this) also i have disabled sound (left only item notification) also unequipped lmps gem. Tested on map t6 and playing now is much better. I think the issue here is with speed clearing killing fast And big pack mobs with more projectivs. This is stupid cuz what if you have problems with playing change build WTF? GGG need too add. New graph settings or new patch that will keep us going on with any build that we want fix issue like DC, crush etc while using more projectivs or big aoe.
Ty bro one more time now i can play poe much better than before. Still testing this build (ofc sometimes still i got mini sec freez but i can live with IT now)
Thanks for your post everyone should read this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First point this isn't a hit on the poster it's a wake up call for ggg.....

What I got from this post is ggg. Wants Xbox players to

1. Downgrade your char. And not play to it's max ability.

2. DONT BUY MTX's because you can't equip them without crashing.

Great job ggg.

AND I REALLY REALLY HOPE ALOT OF PEOPLE READ THIS POST!!! especially about not using mtx many if ggg. See's it in there pocket book the will fix the issues.....
Here next test:
Maps
T6 ok
T8 ok
T9 ok
T6 found Syndicate fort game goes crazy lags like hell...
Syndicate area met on maps ok
My opinion leave forts
Also if you are using totem big chain skills try too not using more project.., more chains big aoe more crushes.

IMO, i dont think that GGG wants players to not play their builds to their full potential, i believe there is underlying issues with MTX's or bugs some where with heavy graphics and new animations from the syndicate battles. Im not a programmer/coder, but that's what it is appearing like now. I forced myself to stay awake all night and have been chugging away with new content and for me, my changes have still have held strong - not one single crash regarding new content. I did have one crash, but i will elaborate on this in my new new comment on the thread
UPDATE: So after forcing myself to stay awake now for 20 hours to continue to see if the theory holds true, not one single crash while playing content or breaches/incursions. Have been consistently chaining T10+ maps, running sextants, larger packs, corrupted, etc. Couldnt even attempt speed clearing incursions prior, but they are manageable and passable now

The game does still see a little lag spike and have the reduced visuals/ resolution, but quickly moving out of the large pack using Whiriling Blades prevents it from overloading and Im easily able to manage the pack.

I did have one hard lock which caused the Xbox to go to home screen - In Oba's cursed trove map, i had cleared out all the strongboxes in the remaining room but one. Wasnt paying attention to the final strongbox mods which had " revives dead monsters" and in that tiny room, It didnt fare well. Not only did my xbox not like it, but im pretty sure I even had i minor stroke trying to process what had happened when everything came back alive at once. That one to me is an excuseable crash, because that amount of activity at one would probably even tax a nice gaming PC....
omfg it worksssssss
I found MTX's always to be a problem.
Kinda of why I went to SSF as no one else around and so their MTX was not giving me a problem when I was in towns.

But wait there's more.

I am using the new MTX now and I was not crashing, or lagging out, or slow down/ freezing/
I am also playing on SSF, as I said above.
I am playing Arc, with Storm Brand and a Lighting Golem.

But just a few hours ago I upgraded my modem.

Now with this new modem I am getting lag, slow/ freezing.
Mind you I have not set-up my modem properly for use with the xbox yet.
That is open certain ports, closed certain ports that type of thing.

So I shall try what you say for now until I get the modem set-up properly

But everything we complain about here on the xbox forum side is happening on the PC side as well.
Everyone I mean everyone is having issues with everything we have talked about.

It is most certainly on GGG's side of things. I do believe it has to do with the MTX's.
Next tips And tricka
1)
Check your storage space if IT below 50prc try to uinstall something3
2)
Go to:
System-settings-preferences-broadcast a capture- then tick off allow broadcast a capture
3)
Open Settings on your Xbox One.
Select the System tab.
Choose the Storage tile.
Select Make more space.
Ensure the Leftover add-ons tab is selected. The size displayed in the top left of the screen shows how much storage will be cleared.
Select Uninstall all.
4) last one try IT:
From the Xbox One home screen, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. (If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings.)
From there, enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220"
Most info can be found in internet, for me those steps give more stability of the game. But sometimes i got little lags, freez etc.
Good luck

Ive always been a solid supporter of a properly configured modem/router - certain models HAVE to have port forwarding done or DMZ'd or they run like absolute hell
