Why are some melee skills favored?

There are only 2 melee skills(dual strike and cleave) that actually benefit from dual wielding other than the small attack speed bonus. Why doesn't cyclone benefit from dual wielding? Currently using 1 weapon, cyclone attacks twice per spin. When dual wielding, you attack once per spin per weapon.

This doesn't make any sense, isn't the 40% damage effectiveness enough? I feel that things like this restrict players to a particular way of playing just because they like a skill. Almost every melee skill should benefit from dual wielding beyond the 10% attack speed bonus. Out of all the skills that don't benefit from dual wielding, Cyclone stands out as one that should.

No - that (significant) attack speed bonus, plus the block chance, is the benefit of dual wielding. That's what dual wielding is - you have two weapons, so by alternating them, you can attack substantially faster. What you're asking for is to arbitraily double the damage of all skills while dual wielding, which is not balanced and will not happen.

I agree with you Mark, its not that most skills don't benefit, its that a small few don't.

What annoys me is that cleave has -phys dmg but nothing on elemental, any comments on the fact that elemental damage on cleave is non reduced (and as such is 200% dmg increase)

I read your thread and it cleared up a few things. I did not realize that the bonus was 10% MORE attack speed, I thought it was just a basic increase. The block chance is nice but I'm trying to compare one hand w/ shield vs dual wielding. Maybe it's just me but it seems as though Cyclone isn't that powerful.

My only gripe with DWing is there should be more like GS and double strike where it using mainhand only. This way you can use the benefit of the IAS/block and use the offhand as a quiver.

I do think we need 1 or 2 more DW based skills and one more that's mainhand only. That would make me happy at least.

All skills except a few are 'dw' skills, but two attack with both weapons at once which creates those dual wield strangeness effects

I'm not saying DW skill as in a skill that you can use 2 weapons with, I'm saying a couple more skills that attack with both weapons would be a good addition. Along with 1 or 2 more that only attack with main hand when DWing like GS and double strike.

That annoys me too, and results in Cleave needing to be balanced around that case and thus becoming undesirable in other cases. I am not sure how that will change in future at this stage.
cant you just replace -phys with -less damage and close the case? some people are going to cry but each of such changes makes someone cry.

maybe then people will level cleave beyond lvl 5

elemental damage in current state is the way to go. you can make phys work, but there is no denying that elemental in 99% cases is simply better. this applies to bows and melee

It's good to know that might be changing. It's particularly obnoxious to those who feel that physical damage is already poor in comparison to elemental.
