Checking resources taking forever. (Is there a full offline installer for PoE?)

It just takes forever to checkfiles. I thoght I was stuck too but it then proceeded to alocating space and after that took some time too it resumed to download the remaining stuff. (Painfull, painfull speed....)

There is differences in our definitions.
Yesterday I wasted 6 hours. I gave up and went to bed.
Today in the morning I waited 2minutes and it started download, 50% through and it get an error and DL stopped. I started the launcher again and was stuck on "Checking Resources..." again for 3 hours before I closed it, then I tried to start it again but compatibility set to win XP S2, and I was stuck for 2 hours before I gave up and closed it again.
Everytime I also launched it as an Admin.

Note: I've read that the installer simply stop getting feedback from the patching server, meaning that it timesout but there is no time out function build into the installer. So you just get stuck there forever. Waiting is no good. And considering that I only had to wait 2minutes this morning before it started downloading seems to make sense.
So it's a combination of bad programming and extreme load on their servers.

The only fix I can think of is to restart the launcher after waiting 2-30minutes.

Edite: Seems to be working.
Instead of waiting 6 hours for nothing to happen, I restart the client once in a while. And that did the trick. It's now downloading again.

I left it on overnight at checking resources; and while the timeout seems to be a possibility, I'm willing to bet that's not it due to the fact that it gets stuck at the same file every time on my end, and the other person got stuck on a different file every single time. There's something very wrong with the installer on a lot of systems, and the company hasn't even acknowledged the problem. Thus far, in every thread I have seen the exact same responses, and once those responses become improbable due to responses from those with issues, the staff stop responding.

I dislike seeing the staff blame our ISP's, as that has NOTHING to do with it. If they properly made use of TCP, then there should be an acknowledgement sent saying "I received this data properly" at the end of every set of packets, and it would be checked for problems prior to sending the next set of packets.

I'm sick of seeing the "defrag your harddrive" excuse; that would make it take extra time, but it wouldn't make it take up to HALF AN HOUR OR LONGER to check for free space if you have a large amount of data on your computer. And considering people with SSD's have this issue, it makes little to no sense and feels like an excuse because they don't know what's going on.

Why Grinding Gear Games doesn't just acknowledge they have no clue what's wrong with the installer and tell us they'll try to fix it for the next patch I don't know, but I'd prefer that to the runaround and excuses we seem to be getting.
I think i may have found a fix,
Try to change the compatibility of the client to Windows XP service pack 3.
It accualy works for me after 2 days trying all kinds of fixes.

No matter what so-called "fix method" in this forum i have tried, it will stop here EVERY TIME.

I don't know whether the game developers really pay attention to this issue. But it stops soooooo many players playing this game.

Did you try using the VPN to avoid a possible cache issue?
It's high time someone revives this old thread. This is ridiculous. I have dozens of games, many AAA titles and some indies. NONE of them have to go through some lengthy allocating space hang up that lasts 20-30 minutes at times. I love this game but you guys (GGG) need to get a couple things fixed.

#1) This allocating space hang up
#2) Long load times when entering the game
#3) A loading screen?
#4) A cool, flashy logo animation?
#5) Something more interesting to look at while the game is loading.

You guys have received tons of cash to make this game. Polish it up already.
I watched "checking files" like half an hour, then i restartet the client and it worked in a few seconds <3
same for me as the above person , was stuck for 40 minutes then restarted the client and it downloaded within the minute.
well needless to say my hd failed and i had to get a new one.ok so i just spent 10 hours trying everything i know to get this thing working.here is what i came up with i hope it helps others.

to install the game.
do not use google chrome, fire fox.instead just use normal internet explorer.

goto poe website, then log in and hit download.after the installer downloads install it.
then run it

give it 45 min to check resources, becuase it will hang up here.

after 45 min close it.

now your gonna restart it, but instead "first" goto properties and set compatibility mode to windows xp sp2 and check the box at the bottom to run as administrator.then apply then close, then restart the installer.

tadaa! it now begins to start to allocate space and 3 seconds after its done it starts installing.

i am running windows vista 64 bit ultimate edition.is my os

i hope this helps some of ya.good luck and see ya out there on the field of battle my fellow exiles.
