Somebody please explain how Weapon Elemental Damage works.

I am just curious.

If I use weapon Elemental damage linked to Split Arrow. But I use a bow with only Physical damage properties. It won't do anything since there's no elemental damage to buff, right?

So what if I used it linked to Split Arrow...but instead used a bow with tri-ele damage properties on it? It would only increase the damage of the tri-ele rolls...but not Split Arrow in anyway, right?

Okay another example...What if I used Split Arrow with a Physical damage bow....but I also used the Hatred Aura. Would it increase the cold damage after it converts from my Physical damage?

What if i used Ice Shot with a Physical damage bow. Would it increase the cold damage from the 50% converted...as well as the 100% cold damage after the skill hits a target?

If that is the case. Would it be more beneficial for me to use Ice Shot with a pure Physical build since it will have more damage to work with?

Also would the weapon elemental damage nodes work even if I only use a Physical damage bow and my skill is Ice Shot?

Damage is produced in packets and each packet has certain qualities assigned to it. Each attack can produce many packets. In order for it to receive a bonus it has to have both "weapon" and one of "fire/cold/electric" assigned to it for some reason.

It wouldn't do anything with Physical damage. It would increase any elemental damage you do with an attack. It doesn't matter if that elemental damage comes from your skill, an aura, or the weapon itself. If your WED gem says it does 40% more weapon elemental damage (the MORE is important on this gem...it's a separate multiplier, whereas INCREASED would get added to other INCREASES before becoming a multiplier) any damage you do that's of an element would be multiplied by 1.4. So the more elemental damage you do, the more this gem will multiplier. If you're converting damage from Physical to an element like Hatred does, obviously the more physical damage you start with will be converted to elemental and be supported by this gem.
