Beta Invite Email
Here's what the invite email says. I'm posting it here so that no one else needs to and so that the community understands the scope and rules of the Beta.

It's a direct download currently.
Only Alpha testers have access so far - we haven't sent out any emails to new users (plan is still tomorrow for that).
" If you check with us first before posting it, probably.
" I haven't played it before so it'd be pretty cool to check out.
" If we didn't publish the email then how would people know that a fake email wasn't real anyway? Also, how would they get email addresses of PoE users? Only click the link if you actually signed up for beta and it's best to check you got a PM from us also.
"That's a temporary thing because late tonight something broke on our website and the timer stopped working. We'll bring it back up as soon as we've fixed what's gone wrong. See this thread. And we're going to be increasing the rate of people getting into beta with the release of the 0.9.3 patch.
"Wrong. It is vital that we get feedback from as wide a variety of people as possible. Only allowing people who actively post lots on the forum unto the beta would be a significant skewing of the kinds of people we were allowing to give feedback, which is an impediment to us making the game as good as it can be for everyone. Random selection IS better for testing the beta because it ensures we get as varied a group of testers as possible and aren't skewing the group wildly towards certain demographics. That's probably why it's used in every beta test I've taken part in or seen occur.
"It's not about the game crashing it's about the game not being finished yet. The game is simply not at the point of being ready for open beta yet. There's a lot of work still to do, and it's much, much easier to deal with the feedback of a smaller group of beta testers than if the game was in open beta. It's not like we're the only game ever to have a closed beta - it's a normal part of the development process. Yes that means not everyone will get in - that's the POINT of a closed beta. |
