Strike skills target 1 additional nearby enemy + melee splash

I'm curious how these 2 interact with eachother. The way I look at it, if you have strike skills on your gloves + melee splash in your gem link, then you're basically hitting twice in the same aoe as long as 1 other mob is near to the mob your are hitting.

Sort of like a shotgun effect. So if you have tribal fury + the gloves strike then you're hitting 3 targets and the aoe can overlap causing insane damage. Is this correct?

It shotguns, yes. Difficult to utilize this in single target boss encounters though (doesn't work with hydrosphere; I tried this exact thing).

Thanks for the response. It def feels like it shotguns using this setup but I wanted someone elses opinion.
