Need help with my elementalist build

Started playing PoE using triple herald blade vortex build from a guide. Was fun almost whole game, now I feel like I've hit wall and can't progress anymore. I play tier 8-16 map and often die there mostly to bosses with shields or elemental resistance, mobs with elemental reflection or sometimes I just instantly evaporate. Need any advice on how to survive better. I also need an explanation of how to increase my dps because I don't see any way I can do it on a budget without losing most of my survivability. I have around 1mil dps.
