Advice please

So I decided I wanted to try and make chaos ignite with hexblast work along with death aura + other auras and chaos inoculation because i like the purple fire. Did well during leveling and even managed to kill Kitava without dying for the first time ever.
Anyway, just started mapping and the low tier maps are fine but its severely lacking to be able to push higher. I didnt plan on actually going further but now I'm curious how far I can take the build.
However I suck at making builds so could use some advice on how to improve things, how to get more survivability and damage to push higher tier maps.

How should i adjust my passive tree?
Which items should I aim for?
Which stats?
Etc
