Trial of Chaos, Unable to Defeat All Monsters

Upon first entering the Trial of Chaos, I chose the Lightning Turret modifier. Upon descending the elevator, I was given the task of defeating all of the monsters in the arena, but I am unable to; I believe one of the monsters spawned on top of the walkway that you're meant to take *after* you finish the task, but since they spawned up there, I cannot attack them.

Unable to portal out, and unable to kill the monsters, the only option was to kill myself on the lightning turrets and get ported out and to restart.

This is a apparently still possible. Same thing happened to me just now...
