WASD + opening chests feels awkward
The problem with opening a chest with WASD controls is you cannot continue to walk towards the chest after clicking it.
If you click on it, yes, the character walks to the chest and opens it. But that is counterintuitive to stop WASD walking and wait. You control your character with WASD the whole time. Letting go of WASD for a couple seconds is NOT intuitive. So many times I click a chest, forget my WASD walking and have to click it again or yet a 3rd time when close. Suggestion: Chests should open if you clicked on them ‘recently’ and then walk close enough to the chest. Right now, WASD inputs break the command to open the chest. Once you WASD walk you naturally just WASD everywhere. Clicking and letting go of WASD feels off. This is a “feel” problem and is of medium to low importance. (But sure would be nice!) This also applies to vendors or ANY target /intractable object.. If I clicked it then I intend to interact with it. Don’t let WASD interrupt that request. If I click a vendor while running and arrive 1 second later, WASD walking should not require a player to click and then stop all WASD inputs until the interaction occurs. Thank you! WASD controls are in the game and feel amazing overall. This is a suggestion to improve it.
I expected that WASD controls would be annoying and leave too many buttons to press but it has felt the opposite. It is intuitive and feels great. If they adjust little things like this request it will be great. |

Wholly agree. It feels odd that every time you want to interact w/ anything you have to let go of your movement keys for a split second. Looting, stash, NPCs, activating Towers.
Currently spamming mouseclick or click-holding on a distant interactable while holding a WASD key ignores the mouse. Suggestion: make left mouse click override WASD when click-holding an interactable from a distance. Or make this kind of behavior an (intuitive) option. Agreed its an awkward dance.
Can't wait for hybrid Mouse+KB+Gamepad/WASD its the perfect solution when we can WASD or controller move, but also do inventory and looting with the mouse. Surely GGG has heard people asking for this. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. |
