My unique Mace disappeared when I equipped a shield.

Why did my Mace vanish into thin air??????!!!!???!?!?!?!?!?! I was extremely excited and happy I was about to use it. Had it equipped and equipped my Shield...as soon as I did the mace vanished. It's no where to be found... I logged in and out, switched characters but still no where to be found!!
