Game crash at corrupted alter

I tried to use the skill gem spark (playing sorc) on the corrupted alter. My game froze for about 2 seconds. Then I looked and the gem was gone (including the attached gems - pierce and something else)

The inventory screen opened but I couldn't remove anything off of my character or inventory.

I relogged and when I came back the game played, after about 5 seconds the game froze for about 5 seconds and then my gem and the attached gems fell to the ground.

The item was corrupted but had no changes to it. The altar was no longer able to be used
