Item vanished when corrupting

What happened: I was in the Vaal ruin at the alter of corruption, I clicked to corrupt my boots, and they vanished.

How this affected my desire to play the game.
When I got to the new area, I built new gear so these boots were absolutely necessary for my character to function, I needed the boots to have Dexterity and movement speed.
I spent all my resources except the common blue magic chips building this gear, exalts and regals, a few chaos. Used all of my chance rolls, I have 0/100 now. I am basically broke at this point.
Losing the boots has broken my character, I now need boots with high enough Dex to use some of my skills. Unless I can replace these boots I may not progress with this character and I will not see the end of act 3.
