Explosive Concoction not working with bow?

Explosive Concoction currently cannot be used while wielding a bow. So what kind of weapon should I use, considering that all Spirit skills seem to require a weapon? Please help clarify this for me — I’m looking forward to your response. Thank you!

In Poe1 explosive concoction is an unarmed skill, which means you do not use a weapon and can not use the skill if you have one equipped.

Do Heralds thematically attach your weapon with some magic stuff? I don't see why they require one to function. I mean the icons hint at that, but GGG shouldn't feel strong against removing/expanding this requirement in my opinion.

Honestly, I think the unarmed mechanic for Concoction is a really cool idea, but in PoE2 it just feels super limiting. There’s barely any support for not wielding a main-hand weapon, and the skill itself only deals physical damage.

The problem is, if you’re unarmed, you’re basically stuck with caster-style skills, and those usually scale off spell damage — which doesn’t help Concoction at all since it’s an attack. It feels like a mismatch. In PoE1, the concept worked better because there were more ways to scale unarmed damage and Poison. In PoE2, without flat phys from a weapon and limited gear support, the skill just kinda falls flat.
