RIP My Sanity: How Am I Supposed to Experiment With Builds When Respeccing Costs a Fortune?

Attention game designers! I'm a new player hard-stuck in Chapter 3. No Divine Orbs in my inventory, zero gold, and my current build deals pathetic damage. I desperately want to switch builds but can't even afford respeccing! How am I supposed to progress? At level 40, I've already burned through multiple builds and exhausted all my gold on respec attempts. Am I just meant to quit? Did you even consider casual players when designing this soul-crushing early campaign? Why gate basic progression behind such brutal difficulty? Why starve us of resources to EXPERIMENT with builds? I'm literally gold-broke, build-locked, and ready to uninstall. This is utterly demoralizing.

Thank you for your response. I’m a casual player who just wants to enjoy the game for 2–3 hours after work, but this season has been incredibly disappointing. I’ve persevered for multiple days but am ready to quit this season entirely. Last season, I progressed all the way to the endgame (Mapping), experienced the full scope of the game’s content, and even managed to defeat all the endgame bosses across different content types. But this season? It’s hard to praise—the current season is simply subpar.

Regarding the currency issue—if GGG is reading this—please consider adjusting the in-game currency requirements for build crafting during the campaign phase. Alternatively, allowing free build experimentation before entering the endgame would greatly improve the experience for players like me.

Just a solution off the top of my head, use a notebook, excel sheet whatever you like and theory craft.

This can help you think and eliminate ideas before committing in the spending and respec game.

The other thing that works for me and the way i play is i roll a lot of characters and learn the early game mechanics, cheap and fast and heirloom characters, to work things out.

Might be a chore for some, but for me i like to get a grasp of things step by step, and imo, i think this lets me build faster and with more confidence something will work when i take a character further. I still respec while i am learning though and just is a given for me.

Being a souls noob, that was the life, I had to accept i messed up so bad that it was better to start again do it right and get back to where i was faster and stronger anyway.

I play these games the same for better or worse. That's how i roll, doesn't mean you have to or should, just putting my info out, becasue no harm if you don't like it.

Edit- it is a interesting topic, when i compare to D4, i am free to do anything, but the time sink still determines how many of those builds i will actually play and the gameplay burns me out before i have even explored it all,Can't say i have every played every single class or build in rpgs to the complete endgame of all that is possible.

Respeccing is cheap. If you want to experiment that heavily then make a new character or grind a bit more.

That being said late act 2 and early act 3 is way too hard atm but then it eases up. But this has nothing to do with free respecs.

you clearly never played poe 1 when talking how "expensive" respec is, its dirt cheap! i make ~30k gold per map in t3 atm, respecing normal passive tree notes costs roguhly 2.8k gold for me atm, so how is that expensive?
if you cant clear that kind of easy content, obviously your experimentation gone so wrong.
at some point you have to take the L and stop experiementing and accept that you are not meant to create your own builds

edit: alternatively, use path of building 2 if its such a hassle for you

I find the pricing incredibly reasonable and cheap, but you probably need tp grind currency and items to vendor. Don't gamble or waste your currency on dumb things... just save and respec, you'll probably get a bunch of skill gems and potentially usable items and none of that should take long either.

Also pick up POB (path of building) if you feel it's too much, you can tweak a lot without currency and it'll do the math for you, before you ever edit your actual character.
I got the sauce.

POE2 enjoyer.

The price for respeccing is more than fine. If you end up wasting all your gold respeccing, that's a you problem. Try having a plan and doing research before doing stuff on impulse.

I mean, let's start by just making sure you know this isn't a thing. You can re-run content where you're at to get enough gold to sort your build out and move on. You could also just start over and use your next run through is an opportunity to think more carefully about your build and be more considerate with how you spend your gold. Respec costs are very reasonable provided you're not trying to completely redesign your character multiple times from the ground up (although even that eventually becomes very affordable).
