High CPU Temps After “Dawn of the Hunt” – Performance Issues with DX12
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to check if anyone else is experiencing extremely high CPU temperatures in Path of Exile 2 after the new “Dawn of the Hunt” update? I'm running a fairly powerful setup – i9-13900K (with water cooling) and an RTX 4070 Ti. Everything used to run perfectly fine on DirectX 12, but ever since the patch, my CPU temps spike up to 98–100°C when loading into new areas or launching the game. I switched to Vulkan, which helps a bit, but I still get short spikes up to ~92°C before things stabilize. Performance in general has also taken a noticeable hit with DX12, despite it being smooth pre-patch. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Switched to Vulkan (better, but not perfect) Enabled FPS limit I’m wondering if others are having similar issues and if any devs are aware of the sudden thermal load. Would love to see a patch focused on DX12 stability and CPU usage optimizations. Anyone else running into this? Got any additional tweaks that helped you? Thanks & take care, Sanja Last bumped13 апр. 2025 г., 14:14:35

What's the temp in other games? This might have something to do with your CPU especially. I have a R7 5800x and it usually stays at about 65 degrees both before and after the patch.

Thermal load?
Sounds like you just need to replace your Thermal Paste. CPUs should be able to run at 100%, and temps are unrelated to the games patch. |

" I believe that was only because every single cut scene, including the long starter one (2+ mins) had uncapped fps and then got hotfixed to a cap of 30. Anyone with a seriously overclocked or poorly made GPU was gonna experience some damages with experiencing cut scenes to full. Последняя редакция: TrunktenUK#3407. Время: 13 апр. 2025 г., 09:44:37

Hey again,
I just wanted to clarify something I didn’t explain clearly in my original post: The performance itself is actually fine – FPS are stable and the game runs smoothly. The real issue is the CPU temperature, especially with DirectX 12. What’s happening is that: When I launch the game or port into a new zone, my CPU temperature spikes to 98–100 °C But instead of cooling back down, it stays in the high 80s to 90s even during “normal” gameplay Vulkan helps – temps still briefly peak at ~92 °C when loading areas, but quickly stabilize and drop to 50–70 °C during regular gameplay, which feels much safer For comparison: I play other games like Fortnite on max settings, and my CPU stays between 70–85 °C even in intense moments. So this behavior seems specific to PoE 2 with DX12 – it’s not a general system or cooling issue. This reminds me a lot of how PoE 2 behaved at the very start of early access – back then, zone transitions also caused CPU spikes, but performance got better over time. Now, it feels like that issue has returned – but more severe, especially in terms of thermal behavior on DX12. Would really appreciate if anyone else experiencing this could chime in – or if a dev could confirm whether this is on the radar. Thanks again! |

" Yeah I dont know what changed, tbh I never had to use vulkan until 0.2 but performance took a major hit. I have been playing with vulkan , NIS and full screen to be able to maintain around 70-120 FPS. Prior I could run the game with DX12 with like max settings. |

What is the point of going past 60FPS for all that heat?
