Anyone else experiencing these temporary game freezes? [EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND]

My wife and I have good gaming rigs but both of us are experiencing the same issue, which recently seems to have become more frequent after the latest patch. We just completed 2 maps and during that time she experienced it 4 times and me twice.

What happens is suddenly the screen will freeze, but the audio is still audible and if I'm the one whose frozen, my wife can see me doing whatever it was I was doing, casting, attacking, whatever, in place. I see nothing on my screen but the frozen screen, while she stands near my character trying to protect me from dying. After a few seconds, my screen then goes black, but I see the gears on the screen that you see sometimes when you first log in or when transporting through a waystation or portal. Then I'm back in control and the game resumes. The same exact thing happens on her end to her, vice versa.

We're both running DX12 on GeForce cards. Since it's happening to both of us, and only in this game, nowhere else, I'm wondering if others are experiencing this also and if it's a known issue. More importantly, is there a workaround until it gets fixed? Should we try Vulkan or FPS limiting, or some other setting change?

I cannot help you but I got the same issue:
Game freeze to Black screen, Audio from Spotify app works but anything else is unresponsive, I have to reset the PC.

Just to clarify, we don't have to restart, reboot, or do anything because the issue always resolves itself within a few seconds and the lockup releases so we're back in the game. It's just an infrequent game siezure.

Yeah I have the same thing, game runs fine then just a sudden freeze, I usually press Esc instantly to pause it and prevent myself getting killed, happens anywhere from like 3 - 8 times per map

Tried changing to Vulkan, tried reinstalling, tried changing graphics and limiting FPS to 60, tried different servers, nothing seems to stop it.

My PC is more than good enough to run this game and it's only been happening since 0.2, played previously with no issues at all.

Have you had any crashes\pc crases or videodriver crash in v0.1? In 0.2 was added temporaly fix: when video driver crashed, instead of exiting to the desktop, the game pauses and re-draws the graphic when the driver is available again. From the interview - this problem was encountered only on Nvidia gpu. So maybe this is how's looks temporal fix.

Ok I found the answer (from a kind soul on reddit).

In ZiggyD's interview with Jonathan and Mark he actually describes what is causing this, an nVidia driver crash. They have NOT been able to reproduce or fix it, so they actually implemented a real kludge so that when the GPU driver crashes, they pause the game, upload a new device, transfer the textures to it, then unpause. Wild, but true.

According to Jonathan, the only user workaround is to revert your GPU driver back to an earlier version that did NOT crash, and he rattles off some big number that he does not remember, so I have to go chase that down. If anyone knows which driver we need to revert to, please post it here.

Tried reverting, full clean installation after removing the updated one first, still didn't fix the mini-freezers in-game, more than likely just there fucked up patch.

Only had it on 0.2, 0.1 was fine.
