My take on why PoE2 isn't fun at the moment.
I learned one thing playing Diablo 4, PoE2 EA and Last Epoch. The 2 first are lead by mathematician's. "The match checks out" and comments like that. "The vision" and so on. Problem is the general worldview on what is "fun" for a mathematician is binary. It's almost always black or white. But what makes a game really fun is usually the greyarea inbetween and often outside of the mathematical parameters. EHG has solved that and that's why Last Epoch is the most fun out of those 3 developerteams. They have people that know what FEELS fun and still works fairly good in a mathematical manner. Blizzard don't understand anything outside of their own gameloop so they just copy/paste the same gameloop for each season with zero improvements and GGG (Jonathan?) is so mathematical so he needs to control every single value in PoE2 and that's why it feels so stale to be honest. Nothing "out-of-order", or anything else that surprises the player, and THAT is the main reason for the lack of fun in the game imho!
Give players some creative freedom on builds or make a boring conditional gameloop that makes the player bored in the long run because nothing fun will happen no matter how much you play... GGG is stuck in the latter. The game is too micromanaged at the moment (by Jonathan). That's my personal take on this situation. Do you agree or not? Or do you have another view why this Early Access is becoming more and more stale for each major patch? I hope they sort it out in the end as they have a great base to build off, but I'm worried their "vision" is too far from the players vision for the game. And then Jonathan say it's a "soulslike" I'm certain he never played those games at all. I Platinumed every single of From Software's games and games like Nioh, Wo Long, Surge series, and at least they have loot and mechanics that make you clear the game without any guide or meta (even if those clearly exists of course) ;) Thoughts ?? I think the game offers very good build variety, but there is a lot of room for improvement tho.
My feeling about all of this is that a lot of players want to zoom-zoom everything like PoE1. So far i'm been succesful with my Gathering storm monk (chayula, bad decision for that build), my Sunder crit Harbringer (HC char until lvl 80), and my Primal Strikes / Storming Lance amazon (HC char until 80 again XD). And i'm not a no lifer or a meta player, as you see. The game needs improvement, that's true, but it's early access. I think the game should remain humble and don't go too crazy for the player powerlevel, as i'm enjoying that gameplay. However, the drop and mod system is not working properly, i ignore the loot almost all the time, which is not the design intended (based on interviews with the devs) |

" Personally I just played through PoE1 once so I'm really NOT comparing PoE2 EA to PoE. I just want a fun, stable leveling process that's not hindered by lack of loot, gamble crafting or lack of upgrade materials. I don't need zoom-zoom to have fun, but I wish it was a little more zoom from Act3 into cruel. That's there I usually gets totally stuck on most of my characters. ;) Now I just heard on a PoE2 youtubevideo about a player that restarts PoE2 until the vendor have "great loot" so it's worth leveling?! That's nothing I heard about before! What should I as a new player look out for to be sure I don't waste my time on a "badloot-run"??! So much hidden and cloaked things in this game it's insane to learn for me. Well hopefully I find guide #10465 explaining that for me. LOL ;) "PoE2 will be soo much new player friendly" Jonathan said. Yeah suuuuure. ;) |

" i think that is a gross simplification of a much larger problem, and unfortunately people don't look deeper and just keep repeating the same claims. while the real issue has been improved a bit, by slowing down the worst offending mobs, the issue is that we the players have been slowed dramatically but the monsters are still running at mach 5. furthermore we dont have many ways to meaningfully increase our speed. another issue, which thankfully GGG is aware of, is the problem with light stuns causing combo game play difficult to pull off. and there are more disparate design elements which dont make any sense. " Agreed with all of this, except the speed of the monsters. I don't think they are really fast in the campaign, but in some areas tehy go nuts, specially in the endgame. Some maps and mechanics feel a lot like poe1. |

People are too impatient go experiment and learn the game and overcome challenges. This is a next gen ARPG and it’s a type of game people aren’t necessarily familiar with because it hasn’t been done before. You really have to study the passive tree to learn how to build characters, but that expertise is greatly rewarded

" agree, but that really hard to do when in starvation mode, wearing the same gear for 20 levels because drops are so bad. and not having enough currency to roll up gear. |
