Sorcess using lighting and draining allies mana

I playing with another buddy on who is a sorc and neither of us are running mana tempest and everytime I cast lighting around him I just drain most of his mana. I'm tires of not being able to play with him and not drain his mana we have played multiple times. I don't running nothing that should give me any issues with drain mana from him. Please fix this .
