Bump.
I had plans to pivot my Acolyte of Chayula from ES/EV to full EV with Darkness when I discovered on several forum posts that Darkness does not inherit player's resistance. I tested it ingame using the following methods: - I allocated Darkness first, then entered a T7 map with Patches of Ignited Ground - I stepped on the ignited ground with all my regular gear and my ES dimished at an the expected slow rate with 80% max fire res at level 92. What is important to note here is that my ES was getting reduced before my Darkness was, so Darkness is not protecting ES in this DoT scenario. - The exact moment my ES hit 0, my Darkness instantly went down to 0. From here, I tried another method. - I removed all equipped gear that had Energy Shield and then stepped onto the Ignited Ground. Again, my Darkness went from 920 instantly down to 0 the moment I touched it. - I then compared the time it took my HP to go from 1300 to around 400. It took about 2 or 3 seconds, not instantly like Darkness. Then, I allocated Heartstopper to see if I could use that as a band-aid solution. - Again, Darkness went from 920 to 0 instantly. - I tested my life again, and the beneficial effect of Heartstopper occurred for one second, and then the negative effect of it occurred after that. From here I concluded that Darkness does not inherit resistance for damage over time. But what about hits? - Opened a T8 map with "Monsters Deal 33% of Damage as Extra Fire Damage" - Proceeded to find a single monster to smack me a few times (Desiccated Lich) - One first hit, my Darkness got reduced by about 500 before my ES. This is good. - The second hit reduced my Darkness from about 400 down to 0, and then my Energy Shield was reduced by about 100. This is good. - Then, I decided to remove my helmet and some other pieces of gear. After getting back to full Darkness, when the Desiccated Lich hit me this time, my Darkness got reduced from full down to about 200. I repeated the experiment and got a similar result, eliminating the possibility of being crit. So from these experiments, we can conclude: -Darkness DOES NOT protect Energy Shield when the player has any amount of it in instances where the player is being damaged by damage over time (bleeds may be the exception) -Darkness DOES NOT inherit Player's Resistances when the player is receiving damage over time. -Darkness DOES inherit Player's Resistances when the player is receiving damage from hits. I have read reports that Darkness has functioned like this for several months now, since at least December of 2024. Here is my bug report number when I tested the first map with Ignited Ground Bug Report ID: #4140454331 and the bug report ID where I tested the interaction with hits. Bug Report ID: #884444881 |

Thank you for reply, :)
It's a skill that fits the theme perfectly ...but it's a complete waste. Have you tested darkness against low damage over time yet? I think T7 map with Patches of Ignited Ground have massive damage and darkness does not inherit player's resistances that cause darkness instantly went down to 0. If your hypothesis is correct, darkness shouldn't immediately drop to 0 when encountering low damage over time. It should decrease gradually. |

I will test that, that's a good point. I'll run my low maps and try to find a damage over time enemy and see what happens.
Also, daily bump until Darkness is fixed. Can't test out the most interesting part of the ascendancy without Dakness being fixed. I look forward to and appreciate your efforts GGG. |
