The Boss in Titan's Grotto playing with controller

This boss can be absolutely terrible sometimes playing on controller. You CANNOT TARGET HIM very often, especially using ranged attacks quite close. It doesn't matter what target mode you use, either. Attacks simply miss him completely and you are literally doing no damage at all to him. For example, huntress with lightning spear.
