Mace + 100 hours to cast a skill

Are people really fine whit how slow maces are ?
I recently started using maces for fun
How people play whit them ?
The +cast time and atk speed reduction nodes feel terrible for me I really don't find them enjoyable to use a specially in end game
Those mace skills could be so cool if they didn't have that +cast time ...

I've taken to using shield skills. Like Shield Charge (explodes on hit) and Magma Shield (explodes on hit). For my standard attack I use Bone Shatter with a bunch of AOE support gems, but for bosses I use Shield Wall and Sunder.

My combination of gems is

Bone Shatter explodes on stun, Explode on ignite gem, explode on bleed gem, explode on armor break gem, break armor when heavy stun, herald of fire explodes, Smith of Kitava explodes empowered attacks (12). and Infernal shout explodes.

Trample Toes boots makes all those explosions feed off each other. So one empowered hit from my mace is a screen clear.

I also have fire curse on hit, curses set ground on fire, elemental exposure when ignited, Magnify AOE gem, which melts thier fire resistance and sets them on fire each time I hit them.

Sadly mace skills are slow and boring. Lets hope axes and swords will be better.
The real problem is not that it is slow, but the fact that it is the only melee STR option currently. It will only be a problem if axes are as slow as maces.

If axes are faster, and they probably will be, I can see mace's slow moves being used on weapon swapping combos on axe chars. It would make sense in this case, not as main skill on a non-meme build as we are trying to do it right now.
