CPU running hot
Hi,
i don't know if more players experienced this, but i have noticed my CPU running really while playing POE2. Not only when i am running through the zones, but while loading into next area or back to town. Temperatures easily go over 95 degrees C. I have a AMD 9800x3d and 5090RTXSUPRIM, so not the worst system out there :). This only seems so happen when playing POE2. Is this a problem with the game, or is it on my end? poe2 is very hungry for cpu/gpu

Yeah, this game is truly a CPU hog unfortunately.

" So humble, it's one of the best you can get. I would suggest going into undervolting your CPU via PBO tweaking, your cpu shouldn't be that hot even in PoE2. Tech guy

" My CPU is usually between 60 and 70°C when I play PoE2 with occasional spikes up to 80°C. PoE2 may be a CPU hog, but in the end it simply can't load the CPU more than it's designed to go and if it gets too hot, you should improve the cooling (bigger and better cooler with larger fan for example). |

" Yeah many have the same problem. Im cooling with custom loop and MoRa radiator and still temps rise to about 85c. They really should optimize. |

The 9800X3D is designed to push thermals up to 95c to extract as much performance as possible. They do not work in the same way as Intel CPUs.
You can change this behaviour in the BIOS. I have mine set to 85c max, with a small undervolt of -15 on all cores, and a small overclock of 200MHz. I tend to sit around 60--70c in PoE 2 with these settings, using a 360mm AIO. | |
Try disabling PBO in the BIOS, you will lose a little performance but it will disable the PBO auto-overclocking and you should be in the 70s at most as well as having slightly cheaper electric bills!

many have the same problem, this version 0.3 every time you open new map or back to town, the game always recompiles shader very long time, CPU power is full, Fan is full.
