Acolyte of Chayula Feedback
I have been trying to play a Chayula for a starter since the launch of POE2 and i find it a little bit harder to start with. and i have a few things i think could help with that. I liked the old setup a little better but I think what we have now can be super fun. I know im not a streamer so my feedback matters little but here it is.
-From a fantasy perspective i think this is a cool concept but the passives need to match the theme. -Darkness is for the most part a dead passive, I did find it nice for making me a little more tanky for leveling but outside of that it really falls off. Mostly because of the fact you lose all spirit and that is a core mechanic of the game. My suggestion is to make darkness a new type of spirit that alters spirit gems in some way. Keep the theme but change it to be more useful overall. -The sap of nightmares passive is really cool but needs to add chaos damage to your attacks also, not a fan of needing a unique ring to do this for you to really feel the power of this passive. To me its no different than the blood mage getting Blood magic as part of the toolkit -Into the breach is very cool but i think it just needs a small buff, nothing crazy but something and perhaps make the leech a bit more impactful. -I like the volatility thing we got going now, its a ton of fun but i would like to see the generation buffed up a small but. Making it so we can use our support to get 20 fairly quickly. Thanks for anyone who took the time to check this thread out and please leave some feedback and lets have a good chat over it. Used to be Darkness Monk was one of my favorite builds.
Before this update, one of the ascension nodes made unreserved Darkness give chaos damage. In short, I maxed Darkness, did not take the node to half reserve time, took Mind Over Matter so that my Darkness would never be reserved (using my mana to protect my Darkness instead of my Darkness to protect my life and es), then built to use the chaos damage I would be always getting from my permanently unreserved Darkness. Sadly, we apparently are not allowed to have fun with cool, special build synergies. Darkness is absolutely dead nodes now. It's not at all worth building if it's nothing more than a fancy purple healthbar. Darkness needs to have an offensive purpose or they may as well remove if from the game. |

I think they need to make Darkness gives at least double the current tank value to make it worth losing Spirit. I personally don't mind having a super tanking AoC build with lower damage. Right now, at level 80, with maxed Chaos resistance, the Darkness is capped at (80*8+100)*1.85 = 1369 Darkness, which is barely anything compare to the insane clear that Heralds give.

"I'm thinking of making a thread on Chayula but it's hard to think of ideas to improve Darkness. My thoughts are that Chayula should have a passive tree similar to Smith of Kitava and you can choose nodes that will benefit your playstyle. But for now I'll list some points: [Volatility] = I will start off by saying that Volatility in its current state isn't good and is a nerf to Chayula damage output compared to 0.2. In the previous League, Reality Rending gave Chonks effectively ~19% extra damage as Chaos at all times. And when a player gets 8 points, they'll invest into 4 point Into the Breach along with the Remnant gems to acquire 1~3+ flames which gave you ~21 - 63% extra Chaos damage while mapping. While Volatility looks to be amazing on paper, players usually are unable to detonate the stacks to make use of the chaos damage because they're either too busy fighting for their life or they finished off all the packs near them and they have detonated stacks with no mobs to kill. Technically, Chayula monks should be able to make use of the Catharsis support but it's very clunky to use and even hardcore Chonks forget to pop it by using Basic Quarterstaff strike. Then there's the other downside towards using the gem, it's random with the amount of stacks used. One time I used when I had 20+ stacks, it gave me 6 detonated stacks. I used Catharsis again and it gave me 7%... This is way too random on an already difficult mechanic to make effective use of. Additionally, Catharsis forces players to give up a keybind to make use of it that could be used for another spell/skill. Solution: Invert the way Volatility currently works and reduced the extra Chaos damage from 1% per stack to 0.5% per stack. As you gain more Volatility stacks, your damage output will ramp up. When the Volatility stacks detonate, you receive the detonation damage (which you'll be immune to via Ascend Node) and for a set amount of time, you're unable to gain any Volatility. This removes the clunkiness and returns Chayula's power back & potentially exceeding 0.2's chaos damage. [Sap of Nightmares] = Chayula's leech was nerfed again and put in another awkward spot where you're forced to purchase certain expensive gear just to make it work while losing valuable stats. In 0.2, players either had to get an expensive Voracious annoint/megalo jewel or use the Atziri's Acuity gloves to make our Energy leech work effectively. Now players are forced to buy an inflated Unique ring costing nearly 2 divines to convert their Elemental Damage to chaos so their leech is sustainable. This comes with a downside of losing damage (Phys/Cold/Lightning), resists, and also potentially leech stats from your Ring slot all for the sake of conversion. Solution: Create a Notable on the passive that gives Chayula players the ability to convert our Elemental damage to chaos damage and rework Original Sin. It's fine to have players solve issues but it shouldn't be at the cost of gimping yourself compared to Invoker ascendency that doesn't require uniques to make the class perform. Additionally, it'd help if the small passive node to Sap of Nightmares was a % of leech is instant rather than a small increase of leech. ... I'll make another post continuing my thoughts another day. |
