Steam version is running well - performance is similar as on windows.
BTW, you can prolong your windows 10 support if you live in European union - you just need to be logged under microsoft account (personal not corporate) - update menu - register for updates.

you can do this anywhere, or you can just install updates manually for the next 3 years.

thanks for the replies, i didn't bought the steam version, i bough it directly from the site on poe2's launch day.

already installed mint, definitely not going back to windows.

i think i have to install wine to play poe2
i dual boot micro$shaft and cachyos due to the win 11 BS. it runs great! i get maybe 5 fps better in cachy. slight improvement but nothing to crow about. one thing i have noticed with linux is the game is generally much smoother. m$ has a lot of microstutter that linux does not appear to have.

you might look into importing your game key into steam. i think that can be done. this way you can use ProtonGE which is a tweaked (by glorious eggroll of Nobara fame) version of proton.

perhaps lutris might be able to handle the compatibility issues? i'm not sure because i use steam along with ProtonUp-Qt. ProtonUp forces different versions of proton.

by far my biggest problem has been OBS! it's just really buggy.

Sorry for late response, but could you elaborate more on your claims. According to my knowledge you can do it for free in European Economic Area (EEA: EU + EFTA) and only for personal purpose. Or you can purchase Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) but it is paid :(
Also I don't think there are any new updates on

I've used Ubuntu as a daily driver for years and both PoE1 and Poe2 have ran great through Steam since Proton has been around.

Running 5800X3D, 7800XT, Vulkan, everything default, 3440x1440, Ubuntu 25.04

Performance is indistinguishable to Windows, I've tried both, and see no reason to boot over to Windows for this game.

I use PoB through Lutris.

It was a little quirky to get up and running but if you're familiar with getting around Lutris roadblocks it's nothing out of the ordinary of making sure everything's "looking" in the right places for things.
I attempted the same thing as you haha. I was running POE2 on Arch without a compatibility layer just fine! Then GGG released a patch that caused the entire game to stutter every couple seconds. Tried correcting it with various troubleshooting steps within Steam, POE2, and Arch itself. No luck.

Switched back to Windows are there was no more stuttering. Maybe you'll have more luck on Mint but I had to switch back to Windows for now.
