It can be used to avoid the downsides of items with negative resistances""" Level 82 I have 4,328 life Armour applying to elemental damage shows 27,536 Estimated elemental damage reduction against hits shows 89% Equipped Veil of the Night so zero resistance. So I should only be taking 11% of the elemental damage I receive? My issue is with: The Storm Herald modifier causes the rare monster to cast a Lightning Storm spell, which calls down multiple powerful lightning bolts targeting enemies. This skill is known for being very deadly, even to characters with high lightning resistance, as multiple bolts can hit the same target and it can deal damage from off-screen. I only seem to encounter enemies with the mod on maps that have negative res and or elemental penetration. Lightning storm hits every .4 secs and takes 3.5k to full life with 1 bolt. So dead in .4-.8 seconds. Either the Veil of the night is not working at all with maps with such modifiers, armour that applies to elemental damage, or it is stating that level 75-80 maps that rares with storm herald mod each bolt is hitting for 39k-43k each with all damage mitigation working. I have another character. Level 84 2,834 life Resistances to Lightning 76% Armour applying to Elemental Damage 20,308 Estimated Elemental Damage reduction against hits 85% No veil of the night equipped So if it is hitting for 39k then my 2nd character should be after armour elemental damage be taking 5,850 but then factor in the Lightning res and should be around 1,404 per bolt so I should be dead in .8-1.2 seconds. Yet when I play as this character and run into it I can be hit by 3 bolts and take collectively 1.4k or less (each bolt doing 300-500 dmg). While the prior character is nearly one shot or is. So the question is does Veil of the Night not work with negative map modifiers related to element res, Armour applies to elemental damage doesn't work in conjunction with veil of the Night, or Lightning Storm doesn't count as a hit? To add a little more info the straw that broke the camels back. A Bramble burrower Rare level 80 with no offensive mods on it except what map modifiers provided killed the 4k life character with 1 lightning bolt. On a map with enemies that had the following bonus extra 15% lightning damage which would increase damage, and the map also had elemental weakness curse which wouldn't work based on Veil of Night, and enemies penetrate 17% elemental resistance which again shouldn't increase damage based on veil of night. I BELIEVE THE ANSWER IS Lightning Storm even though it is a hit is not counting as a hit. Then armour applies to elemental damage is useless. Plus there are builds that use veil of the night and armour applies to elemental damage that work really well so I believe veil of night works properly. I think this is the case because I would think I would be 1 shot by a lot of other things and not just only Lightning storm. Could be doing my math wrong as well but still doesn't make sense how the lightning bolt 1 shots my 4k+ with one layer of damage mitigation but yet would take my 2.8k life character 6-7 shots with having both armour and res for defense. Is my math wrong? Am I misunderstanding something else dealing with this? Does Veil of the Night work with negative map modifiers? Does Lightning Storm count as a hit like it states in description but actually doesn't? Am I just unlucky with my 4k life character and I am being hit with a critical lightning bolt?
