Will we create Legion in Fate of the Vaal?

Tried to post this on Wraeclast subreddit as a theory but it got removed by reddit's filters cuz why not. Posting here, feel free to add anything to my thoughts or poke holes in these theories. 3.27 was my first league so i might be missing some lore that was exclusive to the game.


With the new league in PoE2 we know that it will be somehow connected to Atziri and the beast at the time she was about do the cummunion with it. Many people also speculate that Incursion mechanic will come. Even though I agree that this will be the most likely mechanic I think that it will be quite different from poe1. I have a few thoughts that I would like to share and discuss.

- Doryani says that he has a way to "contain" the beast. On the other hand, as far as I understand Sin wants to destroy it and has his own plan.

- Somehow Doryani managed to keep a bunch of his people alive in the mountains without them becoming monsters or corrupted.

- First time we see Legion in PoE2 is at the end of Viper fight but now as an actual mechanic but as a moment she and her warrior got swallowed into the monolith. They could've shown it in Act 2 for Maraketh but decided to put it in act 3. Maybe it was just the best place to put it but maybe it was a way to show the first "victim" of Legion? It doesn't explain why Empire/Karui are there too, but GGG also tries to expand on existing mechanics and more lore so it`s safe to say that might be a possibility.

- I really think this league will bring Incursion that has a lot of different mechanics from PoE1. It will probably start in act 3 and instead of attacking the Vaal like in Atzoatl we might be trying to help them.

- I doubt we can save Atziri, this would create insane butterfly effect. I`m not even sure we will fight her or the beast. They will save Beast fight for campaign and although Atziri fight is possible it will be 100% different. That said, I would guess that our main goal might be saving as many non-corrupted Vaal.

Let's go even crazier - What if Abyss and Scourge (Beyond) are the same thing from different time and/or were created by Atziri's Communion.


- In PoE 2 Beyond monsters were used for corrupted areas and we had Doryani come and analyze them after we clear the area. It was quite clear that this was the influence of the current activities of the Beast.

- Abyss monsters instead of being clearly Undead are considered to be Demons, same as Beyond monsters. What if Abyss demons are the result of one of the Cataclysms from long time ago? Atziri was looking for eternal life and maybe this is one type of it.

- Abyss and Scourge has some very similar monsters and terrain (big fissures) which would probably be explained by reuse of assets but what if it was intentional or will be changed to fit new lore?

I havent play PoE1 and only know some lore from what i read or some videos so i'm not sure what to expect.

This game usualy make us more kill than save people so i'm not sure we could save the Vaals =)

What i was thinking, since Alva kinda disappear in act4 to read her book about blood magic, maybe she's going to "find something" and we're going to go back into the past right after the cataclysm.
Since we escape trough the time gate at the end of act 3 as the cataclysm happen, it would be very possible we find a way to go back there.
All the Vaals havent disapear obviously since Alva is one of their descendant, so there must still be "something" or "someone" there. Probably most of them corrupted.

So maybe it will be to also try to clean corruption there after Atziri commune with the beast?

I think Viper will have a bigger role to play later on in futurs acts, not sure it would be related to a league mechanic but why not. That would be very interesting too.

I am expecting a pinnacle boss with the mechanic, i am expecting it would be Atziri =)

You actually can get Viper as a Unique enemy in a Poe 1 legion encounter, which I thought was pretty cool. I think they can either leave it as is or do something with it if they want, they left the door open on that one I'd say. I started playing pretty late in POE 1 though, so I wouldn't know all the lore.
