When are they going to fix area sizes and massive layouts?

They said that adding waypoints was just a temporary stopgap while they work on a solution. It's been like 6+ months and there is no update on what's going on.
It's not ONLY endgame maps, the entire game is like this. Absurdly large sprawling areas filled with only 30 enemies. It's just a walking simulator. They know it's a huge issue, which is why they have added 2 mechanics - sprinting and waypoints - to try and alleviate it. It's not working. Please make the areas literally 30-50% smaller, and just make "level 2" of the area. It feels so much better to have more smaller areas than 1 ludicrously large zone. ~ Seph Last bumped6 дек. 2025 г., 14:05:32

maybe. *maybe* some areas in campaign were too vast at launch. but most areas are too small now. they just needed to code some way for checkpoints to be generated at reasonable distances from each other (and make scrolling the map when choosing checkpoints smoother).
there are certainly areas of the game that slog a bit (act 3?) but so much of the game is being trivialized now because it's "too much" for Some People's brains to handle. i think in the recent dev interview mark mentioned for 0.5 they intend to expand the atlas tree to make it so you can spec into the end-game gameplay you want, bigger maps or smaller maps. that's probably the best way to go about it, since i don't think it would be quite as easy to have that sort of control for Campaign and keep things relatively balanced. (zooms will probably always win just by getting more loot rolls/min, but i suppose we shall see). Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.

" Uh, what? Not a single zone is even remotely close to being "too small." " .... it's not an endgame issue... the problem starts at level 1. ~ Seph

" I completely agree with you. My personal complaint is they made endgame maps too easy, instead of reducing the size of the Drowned City in Act 3. Evasion-only melee character that can kill Ubers with cheap gear (SSF Rise of the Abyssal), no armor, no energy shield, 62k eHP:

" Yup. They added sprint too so area sizes is really a non-issue Mash the clean

Sprint is a really nice qol that, post-refinement is practically a 10/10 now for me. My poor network sometimes double-attack/cast/dodges so my character ends up doing a lot of things I don't tell it to do. So I get knocked down a bit still.
But even pre-sprint I didn't really have a problem with most areas. I thought it was cool af. And that was with 15-20%ms boots at best back then. 15-20% are often good enough for me (tho ofc more is way better as a defensive "layer"). Backtracking, back then, was part of the risk/reward part of the game. "How do you spend your time?" is a major decision on how to progress and how fast you progress. Some people pick up every single item to identify Crafting/lottery opportunities or Rares to vend for Gold. Some pick up practically just currency. Some people rush the Boss, some full clear. Having multiple paths to explore or pursue, and not just one single "correct" answer because it is magnitudes more effective is the way. Decisions that matter, that have weight.

fugggggggggg, i almost think instead of the async trade they should have just made a tutorial for trading and trading etiquette, and then made blocking players you don't want to interact with actually mean something and called it a day. in-game item search is a 10/10 qol tho, and a must-have if you intend to service console players and not just set up console to be the red-headed step-child.

or, at this point, maybe make async (including currency exchange) gold costs a smidge higher, but also lower respec costs a smidge at the same time. though i guess overall i'm pretty happy w/ where gold is as a resource in terms of availability (at least once you hit maps. campaign. . . . . ).
I don't think the problem is map sizes. I think you just wanna go fast. I mean you complain about campaign monster density but it's so far beyond hyperbole that it's basically just a straight out lie. But please, explain yourself. Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.
