You can fix all particle effects with 2 sliders

One for transparency and one for brightness. This will allow everyone to fix exactly what they want to what they would prefer with minimal effort on ggg to min max the situation.

If you wanted to go one step further and add a bit more diversity make separate options for monsters and players and/or yourself to other players. So seeing your own but not other players. Maybe a checkbox to just disable other players would work to.
